S1 Ep. 9- Happy Pokemon Day 2019!

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Happy Pokemon Day! Every year The Pokemon company celebrates the first release of Pokemon on February 27th with new announcements, releases, and special events. Today I would like to talk about all of the aspects of Pokemon Day 2019 and what they announced, release, and share my love with Pokemon.

I have played every Pokemon main series game since 1998 and am the champion of every region more than once. I have logged thousands of hours into those games and a million hours talking about it and living it. So here's my analysis of each generation before we get to this year's Pokemon day.

Generation I- Red, Green, Blue, Yellow (1996-1998)

My first Pokemon game was Blue for Christmas of 1998 and loved it from day one. I was playing the card game before then but I was excited to play the game. Now I know that these games have mechanical issues and have some broken Pokemon and moves but the idea, formula, and magic of the series was born from this game so I have to give it all of the credit it deserves. My favorite Team from this generation is Blastoise, Parasect, Nidoking, Arcanine, Raichu, and Hypno.

Generation II- Gold, Silver, Chrystal (1999-2001)

The objectively the best Pokemon generation there is and arguably one of the greatest sequels of all time. A brand new region, 100 new Pokemon (including expansions of original Pokemon), updates to the mechanics, new features like breeding, 2 new types, and after the elite four the entire first region opens back up where you can battle the original 8 gym leaders again and when you're done with that you battle your character from the first games! It was fantastic! Here is my team from this generation.... Typhlosion, Ampharos, Crobat, Slowking, Steelix, and Sunflora.

Generation III- Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green (2002-2005)

This is was a weird generation but it was a really good generation. These are the only games found on the gameboy advanced and the only games with this art style. I really enjoyed these games and found the new additions to Pokemon, contests, abilities, and differing stories for each game made these games really great. You also got a remake of the first games in this generation which were the original games in this art style. It was a very nice edition to this generation. The team for this generation is Swampert, Torkoal, Breloom, Gardevoir, Aggron, and Salamence.

Generation IV- Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold, Soulsilver (2006-2010)

This was the first generation on the DS and it saw a nice aesthetic and design of characters, Pokemon and the world. The game didn't add much new but it did add a bunch of new Pokemon and post and pre evolutions of existing Pokemon. It had probably the best new Pokemon selection of any new game but the game was not designed well and was slow and the distribution of Pokemon was awful. With that in mind, here is my team for this generation, Infernape, Staraptor, Luxury, Roserade, Floatzel, and Rhyperior.

Generation V- Black, White, Black 2, White 2 (2010-2012)

This generation is one of my favorites. It had the magic of the original games where only that generation's Pokemon were found in the region until you beat the elite four. The post games in both of the game pairs were amazing and really changed the experience. This is the game with the best story in my opinion I felt like every character in the game had an arc which has never been done in the series. The team for this generation is Serperior, Joltnik, Chandelure, Bisharp, Musharna, and Swanna.

Generation VI- X, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby (2013-2015)

This generation saw another fantastic update to the visuals and was the first game in full 3D. It had the best Pokemon selection due to the low number of new Pokemon but also saw the addition of Mega Evolution which added extra evolutions onto existing Pokemon during the battles. It was a great addition that added another mechanic to the game, story, and competitive team building. It also saw the addition of another new type, the fairy type. My team for this generation is Greninja, Gogoat, Heliolisk, Pyroar, Goodra, and Florges

Generation VII- Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Let's Go (2015-2018)

This generation wanted to change the formula but keep the magic of Pokemon so they changed from 8 gyms to 8 trial captains where you had to battle the totem Pokemon in order to get Z-crystals which unlocked a special move for your Pokemon. It was a great idea and did change the formula of the game but I thought it took away the replay value of the games. It did have some cool story elements but it was the most story heavy games in the series which really dragged the game along. Let's go was also the 3rd remakes of Kanto games and used mechanics from Pokemon GO. My team for this generation is Incineroar, Araquanid, Mudsdale, Mimikyu, Crabominable, and Tsareena.

Generation VIII- Sword, Shield (2019-???)

This is the big announcement of Pokemon Day 2019! This are the next games on the switch and are the first proper games on the Nintendo Switch. The games are set in the Galar region, will feature a free camera, and may potentially have a non-linear gym structure. The starter Pokemon were revealed as Scorbunny (the energetic fire bunny), Sobble (the timid water lizard), and Grookey (the mischievous grass monkey). I will be starting with Scorbunny.

The other announcements for Pokemon Day 2019 were...
-Pokemon Go event with Shiny Gen I Pokemon
-Dialga Raid bosses in Pokemon Go
-New Detective Pikachu Trailer and promo video featuring Ryan Reynolds
-Metwo Strikes Back CG remake in the works for 2019

It was a great Pokemon Day! I will do a part 2 to this episode later today featuring the mountain of music I've been listening to but for now, I think that is enough! I just needed a reason to talk about my favorite games and I am excited to go on a new Pokemon adventure later this year.

                          All the Best, Ross

S3 Finale: Top 10 Shows of 2021

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year I added a new category to Thrak Attack's lineups of adventures. I've never been a big TV show follower but I felt like with the MCU adding TV shows and access to some new streaming services to my roster over quarantine that it was time to add those adventures in! So here is a Thrak Attack first, The Top 10 Shows of 2021! 10. Hawkeye on Disney+  is not a great mini series but has some great character introductions and moments for the MCU. Most importantly introducing Kate Bishop who will hopefully take up the mantle of Hawkeye, Yelena reconciling with Clint about Natasha's death in Endgame, and the reintroduction of a character from the Netflix Marvel shows!   9. The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+ was a short and sweet show based on a podcast which is an interesting transition. Both Paul Rudd and Will Ferrel shine in this show showcasing both of their acting chops. The plot is pretty simple but is com...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

S2 Finale- Top 10 Songs of 2020

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year brought us a ton of music and great albums but sometimes a specific song transcends the album that it's on and sometimes artists release singles. So this is the list celebrating those gems on mediocre albums and singles artists have released throughout the year! Top 10 Songs of 2020 10. "When You Get That Feeling" by Nate Bo is a debut song from one of my good friends. It's a solid jam with an R&B vibe and wicked vibraphone solo. I used to play music with Nate in college and I'm glad to see him with a successful first song! I can't wait to see what's next for Nate in his career! 9. "Twice Your Size" by Declan McKenna is off his sophomore album titled "Zeros". Although the album suffered from production issues that muddied up the brilliant lyrics, this is the few songs that didn't suffer from that. The energy that this song brings to the table is exactly what t...
