OCTOBER 2018 TOP 3

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! The last of the month is when I review and make a Top 3 list of things that happened or were released this month. It just so happens the first of the month is also on Halloween and a Wednesday, so it's pretty hectic today. With all that being said however, here are the things I got into this month!

-Courtney Barnett Concert
-"Unheavenly Creatures" by Coheed and Cambria
-Apple Watch Series 4
-Foo Fighters Concert
-Hobo Johnson Concert
-Seattle Trip
-Venom
-Daredevil (Season 3)
-Pokemon Go Community Day (Beldum)
-Red Dead Redemption 2
-"Masters of the Sun" by Black Eyed Peas
-Apple Event

This month was pretty packed and a lot of it was really good stuff. There were a lot of things that I did not care for though so here are my Top 3 list for October 2018!

3. "Vaxis- Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures" by Coheed and Cambria is their 9th studio album and a great return to form for the band. Going back into the story and comics that we love and going back to a prog rock concept album for the ages that will kick off a 5 album series that will push us right back into the Amory Wars. Some of the favorites on the album include "The Unheavenly Creatures", "Lucky Stars", and "Toy". If you have not checked out this album yet I highly recommend it!

2. Courtney Barnett Live at the Van Buren- Ever since my road trip last year to Taos, NM; I have been obsessed with Courtney Barnett's sound and mesmerizing lyrics. She is by far one of the best lyricists of the past 10 years. I really got into her second album and when her 3rd album was released last spring I instantly fell in love. When I found out she was coming to Phoenix I bought tickets and was super impressed with the Van Buren as a venue and in her performance. If alternative rock and amazing lyrics is your thing, please check her out! Also, getting an exclusive Spotify singles vinyl helps too!

1. Seattle- This was my second time in Seattle, the first time was with my family when I was 11 years old. This time was when I was 27 and with my best friend; so this time was much better and more memorable. We did everything I wanted to do! Pike Place, Gum Wall, Breweries, OG Starbuck, Space Needle, Pop Culture Museum, Funko HQ, Fremont Troll,  many game stores, and a hike! It was a legendary trip and I will diffidently be going back in the future!

Well there you have it! Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know what your Top 3 of October was! Wait until December when we do a Top 10 list of 2018! Thank you all for reading!

                                   All the Best, Ross

El Deafo

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure takes into the world of Cece Bell's graphic novel turned into an Apple TV+ series titled "El Deafo". It is a semi autobiographical tale of her early life and dealing with her struggles of being deaf. The series also features original music from Waxahatchee a very underrated artist in my opinion! So let's get started on our review and head to Virginia to meet Cece Bell in "El Deafo" First off I would like to say the character designs are super cute and enjoyable to watch. I love the design of the rabbits and the clean lines of the show are very pleasant to look at. The tone of the show is very colorful yet muted and pastel which I really enjoy.  Now I won't give away the plot but as you can guess from the title and the poster that this is the story of how Cece lost her hearing. It is great to see a story for children addressing this topic for them to understand the issue ...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

"Covers" by Cat Power

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This adventure takes us to many genres of music covered by Cat Power! From Iggy Pop to Lana Del Rey to Billie Holiday, this album takes to many genres but somehow feels stale through Cat Power's style.  I knew this was a cover album and was excited to hear all the different songs sung in a new style. Unfortunately these songs are more than just the surface songs and singles. These are lesser known songs from big artists. I loved trying to guess who's song it was and then looking it up afterwards. Even though the artists she covers are from all sorts of genres this album is such a drag to listen to. The 12 songs slog on for 43 minutes and never feel like it's going anywhere. It's like she took the personality from the different artists but not any of the passion. I felt very bored listening to the songs. Two of the songs did make it onto my 2022 playlist including "Pa Pa Power" and "White Mustang...
