Welcome back to Thrak Attack! This week was an interesting one filled with a few things including Daredevil Season 3, Pokemon Go Community Day, and "Trench" by Twenty One Pilots. A little bit of everything from TV shows, video games, and music! Well before we get to the reviews, lets go through the news of the week!
NEWS!
-Apple iPad and Mac event will be held on October 30th. Do I smell a new iPad for Black Friday?
-Record Store Day (also on Black Friday) will be featuring a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 film soundtrack on vinyl.
-Netflix cancels Luke Cage a week after cancelling Iron Fist. This can mean 2 things... 1, they could be ramping down the Marvel Netflix shows; or 2, they could being ramping up for a "Heroes for Hire" show!
-Meltan has an awesome new evolution called Melmetal and it looks amazing! I'm still not clear on how they evolve, level up or candies? We will have to see.
-Indiana Jones Land that has been rumored for Disney's Animal Kingdom, might be moving to Disney's Hollywood Studios instead. This could be exciting news for the park that will continue to grow!
-Disney has been talking about starting a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot... Can't we be done with this franchise? Take a break!
Pokemon Go Community Day
This month's Community Day featured Beldum, one of the most coveted Pokemon of the Hoenn region. Beldum evolves into Metang and then Metagross. I also received a shiny beldum who looks awesome! Metagross also has a special move, meteor mash. I now have a Metagross with Meteor Mash which is now my strongest Pokemon, and a shiny Metang which needs 10 more candies to evolve. It was a successful day!
"Trench" by Twenty One Pilots
Twenty One Pilots is one of the most diverse and interesting bands of the past 10 years. They have successfully combined hip-hop, rock, and pop to create a fresh new sound. They also craft a unique storyline that may or may not connect to the last album, Blurryface. Twenty One Pilots has posted some unique images that people have pieced together to craft a story. The music and lyrics also reflect the story in unique ways where it's very fragmented. The sound of this album is very diverse and shows their range in musicality. The first song "Jumpsuit" is also the fist single of the album and features a heavier sound. Though I am not a fan of this song. It doesn't set up the album tonally and only hints a the story that's unfolding in the album. They also missed a huge opportunity to not repeat the bridge in a heavier style at the end to create a complete song. The songs that I really enjoyed on this album are "Smithereens", "Neon Gravestones", "The Hype", "Cut My Lip", and "Legend" which is interesting because they are later on the album. This is one album where the second half of the album is much better than the first half. I will not own this album on vinyl, it's not going on my ultimate shelf but I do recommend giving it a listen, I had fun with it!
Daredevil: Season 3
The Marvel Netflix shows were supposed to be a darker and more intense side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where we could have more brutal action and mature themes. What they have become are bloated, slow, cop dramas, with sparse action throughout the seasons and almost no tie-ins to the larger MCU. This is extremely evident in Daredevil Season 3. There are a lot of plots happening at the same time in this series. Here are a the main character list, each one has a plot that needs to get resolved in the series... Matt Murdock, Karen Page, Foggy Nelson, Maggie Grace, Ray Nadeem, Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, Blake Tower, and Wilson Fisk. Some of these characters (4 of them) have been in previous seasons. We don't need more of their backstory because we should already have it. I don't want to watch an exciting action scene and be left on a cliff hanger to then have 30 minutes of Karen Page's backstory. There were multiple times where the momentum was stopped in it's tracks. So much happened in this season but I felt like nothing exciting happened. There were a few great scenes like the prison escape continuous scene, and the final fight with Daredevil, Dex, and Wilson Fisk; but the majority of the fight scenes were just fine. I have many complaints about this season but my main issue is the season (and most of the previous seasons), don't allow the characters that we love BE the characters we love. Matt Murdock never once wore the Daredevil costume, and I know that he was supposed to be "finding himself" but he needed to beat Fisk as Matt Murdock, not Daredevil. Speaking of Wilson Fisk, I'm over it. I love Vincent D'Onofrio as that character, but we've had him for 3 seasons, let him take the backseat to another villain (oh wait, we could have? We'll just have to way for another drawn out season for that to happen). I would love to know how Fisk is so connected and owns everyone and set's up these amazing plans to stop anyone from touching him; but they never show us that we are just told that is happening which is boring. This season is so long and boring that I don't want to watch another season. The end fight scene was great but because it took 13 hours to get to that point I didn't care. Also, each character was in the same situations as they were at the end of the first season. So 26 hours (32 if you count the Defenders) of character development to get back to where they were. It was poor writing and makes me feel like a whole day of my life watching events that don't matter. This will not make my ultimate shelf of TV shows, I am officially over the Marvel Netflix shows.
Oh and post paragraph (like a post credits scene). This one was awful. Everyone knows it's Bullseye, why couldn't you develop into that character during this season, maybe it would have been better. Instead, that character was a joke because he was owned by Wilson Fisk.
So there were my thoughts on the things I did this week, Hopefully you enjoyed Daredevil more than I did and if you want to have a discussion about it, let me know! I will be more than happy to debate about how horrible it is. Thanks for reading!
