#10- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! It's been a crazy week! House warming party, getting sick, Winter Festival, it's been a long week but we're pushing through. I got a great game and a good trailer to get me through the week. I also have a lot of news from a variety of things, so let's get started!

NEWS!

-MTV is contemplating rebooting Celebrity Deathmatch and I could not be more excited.
-Netflix is paying $100 million dollars to keep friends streaming for 1 more year... That's seems a bit excessive.
-Joker from Persona 5 is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the first DLC character out of 5... Can Banjo Kazooie be the next? Please?
-The Beauty and the Beast attraction that's being built in Tokyo Disneyland received a trailer this week and it looks super good! #Tokyo2020
-Disney also released the "Global Avengers Initiative" involving guests in fighting the forces of Hydra in three different Disney parks around the world starting in Hong Kong Disneyland, then California Adventure, and finally Disney Studios in Paris. Who's ready to join the fight? I'm ready to join the fight!

TRAILERS!

Game of Thrones releases it's Season 8 teaser trailer which is legitimately shows nothing which is fantastic. Trailers lately have been giving away too much of the movie or show. This one does finally show the "Song of Fire and Ice" that the book series is named. I have read all of the books but I do need to catch up on the last 2 seasons of the show so I'm ready for it.

Avengers: Endgame is the official title. That is the only thing I will spoil from this trailer. I will say it's not a great trailer it just reminds you of what happened during Infinity War and where the characters are at. It really was hoping for just the opening show and that's it, I didn't need to see anything else because I will be seeing this movie opening day!

REVIEWS!

I honestly want to quickly go through this review so I can play more Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, that's how much I love this game. There is minimal story, it's not open world, and it's not a battle Royale. It's just a fighting game featuring all of the best Nintendo characters along with many special guests. The fighting mechanics and controls are smooth and polished, there are 74 playable fighters with more coming for DLC in the future, and there are many different ways to play. Let's get into the bread and butter of the game, World of Light.

World of Light started off with an amazing cut scene which was showed off during one of the Nintendo Directs. After that you are plunged into this over world map featuring famous places from video games such as Bower's underground lair, Lumiose City from Pokemon X and Y, a Pac-man Maze, and even the real world where Street Fighter characters can be fought and unlocked. There are only 74 playable characters but there are countless Assist Trophy characters and Pokemon from Pokeballs that can emulate characters from 100s of video games. These "spirits" can aid you in battle and have a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" effects and other various effects that help in different battles. Some of these battles are a cakewalk and some are super difficult. My least favorite one was the Paulina battle.

It was a Peach in her red outfit along with Mario (with a hammer to start), and Donkey Kong appears when the hammer runs out on the 75m stage. Oh also, your character has limited movement and jumping ability and there are multiple items that show up AND Peach consistently runs away. It's the worst level but I finally beat it after at least an hour of attempting with Link. My only issue with this is the lack of cut scenes after the first two. It's a little disappointing to have such a cool start and then nothing. It's exactly like Mario Tennis Aces earlier this year.

The online isn't exactly ideal but it works if you want to play random matches. I need to finish world of light first and get better with some characters before I get into but it seems to work just fine. I did experience some significant lag because of all of the people on the servers.

The classic mode is also super interesting and different which I really enjoy. Each character has their own "mission" and have specific challenges for their classic mode. For example, Peach is the "Damsel in Distress" and has to fight all of the characters who would capture her such as King K. Rool, Ganondorf, King Deedeedee, and of course Bowser. Some of the end with Master Hand but Yoshi's ended in one of the most surprising and exciting boss battles I've experienced. There is also a mural with different levels that scrolls higher or lower depending on the difficulty level which is a really nice touch.

If you don't have a Switch and you love video games, I don't know what you're doing with your life. Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, Octopath Traveller, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Pokemon Let's Go, and now this? You gotta get on board. This should be a system seller for most people if not, Pokemon next year should be. This is diffidently going on my ultimate video game shelf. Now excuse me I gotta go play more Smash Bros.

                                  All the Best, Ross

S3 Finale: Top 10 Shows of 2021

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year I added a new category to Thrak Attack's lineups of adventures. I've never been a big TV show follower but I felt like with the MCU adding TV shows and access to some new streaming services to my roster over quarantine that it was time to add those adventures in! So here is a Thrak Attack first, The Top 10 Shows of 2021! 10. Hawkeye on Disney+  is not a great mini series but has some great character introductions and moments for the MCU. Most importantly introducing Kate Bishop who will hopefully take up the mantle of Hawkeye, Yelena reconciling with Clint about Natasha's death in Endgame, and the reintroduction of a character from the Netflix Marvel shows!   9. The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+ was a short and sweet show based on a podcast which is an interesting transition. Both Paul Rudd and Will Ferrel shine in this show showcasing both of their acting chops. The plot is pretty simple but is com...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

S2 Finale- Top 10 Songs of 2020

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year brought us a ton of music and great albums but sometimes a specific song transcends the album that it's on and sometimes artists release singles. So this is the list celebrating those gems on mediocre albums and singles artists have released throughout the year! Top 10 Songs of 2020 10. "When You Get That Feeling" by Nate Bo is a debut song from one of my good friends. It's a solid jam with an R&B vibe and wicked vibraphone solo. I used to play music with Nate in college and I'm glad to see him with a successful first song! I can't wait to see what's next for Nate in his career! 9. "Twice Your Size" by Declan McKenna is off his sophomore album titled "Zeros". Although the album suffered from production issues that muddied up the brilliant lyrics, this is the few songs that didn't suffer from that. The energy that this song brings to the table is exactly what t...
