Well here we are folks, 2019! It's time for the final post for 2018 before we jump into the new year! It's Top 10 time! Top 10 movies, video games, albums, songs, and travel destinations! So it's going to be a long but great post of the best of the year! If you want to see the adventures I want on this past year, I have the part 1 post of the full years adventures if you would like to check it out! With all that out of the way, let's get started!
Top 10 2018 Movies
10. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse- A fantastically animated film but would have better off as an television series.
9. Venom- I was not expecting this film to be this good. I was pleseantly surprised by the tone of this film and the acting. The unexpected joy I found in this film gives it the #9 spot.
8. Solo: A Star Wars Story- Diffidently not the worst Star Wars film but not the best either. Just a fun space adventure with a fantastic performance by Donald Glover as Lando.
7. Ant-Man and the Wasp- Such a fun film but it sidelines and rewrites one of my favorite MCU characters into a bumbling idiot.
6. Robin Hood- I wasn't going to see this movie but I'm glad I did. It is by no means a good film but it is some of the most fun I've had in a theater.
5. Black Panther- It's a fantastic entry into the MCU but doesn't meet the fanfare the world gave it. Still a great film! But only #5 on my list.
4. Deadpool 2- A great sequel with heart, action, and loads of comedy. This is a great super hero film and has one of the best cameos of all time.
3. Incredibles 2- A film that is 14 years in the making. A brilliantly stunning animated film with a perfect voice cast and great scenes.
2. Bohemian Rhapsody- The best biopic I have ever seen. Through the eyes of one of the most legendary vocalists of all time Freddie Mercury, this film showcases how Queen is one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
1. Avengers: Infinity War- Is a monumental achievement in film making. It's got an enormous cast that never feels overstuffed, spot on special effects, musical brilliance, and an important step for the most successful movie series of all time.
Top 10 Video Games of 2018
10. Nintendo Labo- This is the most interesting game I've ever played ever which deserves a spot on the list.
9. Fallout 76- This game had so much potential but they released an unfinished game and took out key elements to the Fallout franchise.
8. Assassin's Creed Odyssey- I didn't actually play this game but I did see my roommate play 60 hours and still have much to do. For that, it deserves a spot on the list.
7. Red Dead Redemption 2- This game should have been higher up on the list but the slow pace and the clunky menus really hinders this game's experience.
6. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee- The biggest change to the Pokemon series since Ruby and Sapphire. This game gets me excited for next year's core series game.
5. God of War- I know this won game of the year but this game didn't wow me like it did for everyone else.
4. Monster Hunter: Worlds- Another great multi-player with a little story to tell but great game play.
3. Octopath Traveler- Visually stunning 2.5 D game with some of the best turn based action I've seen in a long time along with a wonderful story this makes for a great game.
2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate- This is the ultimate party game and will give me hours of fun with friends for years to come!
1. Spider-Man- A great story, fast paced action, tons of collectibles, and the most fun I've had playing a video game this year.
Top 10 Albums of 2018
10. "Simulation Theory" by Muse- It's a jumbled mess of an album but there are some really enjoyable songs. The extra versions in the deluxe edition really make the album showcase the band's musical prowess.
9. "Family Tree" by Black Stone Cherry- Is a Southern Rock triumph. When the public's eyes have been turned from southern rock, Black Stone Cherry released an immensely gratifying album for the genre.
8. "Trench" by 21 Pilots- This is one cryptic album. At face value it is a standard 21 Pilots album but dig deeper and you will find a deep mythology and lore crafting a story that is truly compelling.
7. "Kamikaze" by Eminem- Is one of the most important rap albums of the year, pushing forward rap and forcing other artists to do the same as a response.
6. "Vaxis: Act 1- The Unheavenly Creatures" by Coheed and Cambria- This is a fantastic return to form for the band with great story telling and prog rock anthems galore.
5. "Dirty Computer" by Janelle Monet- This is what pop music should be. I am excited to see what comes of this artist next.
4. "Tell Me How You Really Feel" by Courtney Barnett- The future of rock is female and this female is leading the charge with her mesmerizing lyrics.
3. "Blue Madonna" by Borns- A fantastic sophomore album that changes continues to thrill me after each listen
2. "Boarding House Reach" by Jack White- The most unique album of the year. This album challenges the normal flow and song structure of what Rock music is.
1. "High as Hope" by Florence + the Machine- A magical album that showcases Florence Welch's poetic, songwriting, and vocal talents.
Top 10 Songs of 2018
10. "Charity" by Courtney Barnett- It was hard to pick a song for #10 and a lot of the contenders were from Courtney Barnett but this is the song I love the most from her and takes the last spot on the list.
9. "Freaky Friday" by Lil Dicky (ft. Chris Brown)- Just a fun hip-hop song with some great guest artists. Not the best song but one of the most fun of the year.
8. "Peach Scone" by Hobo Johnson & the Lovemakers- The song has so much heart and passion that I need to join in every time I hear it.
7. "Sunday Driver" by the Raconteurs- The latest entry onto the list, this song gets me excited for one of next year's "Album of the Year" contenders.
6. "Body Talks" by The Struts ft. Kesha- The greatest collaboration of the year. I love that Kesha make her own decisions now and she is making the right ones!
5. "Dig Down" (Acoustic Gospel Version) by Muse- The superior version of this song, I want an album with only this style of music from Muse.
4. "Gold Rush" by Death Cab for Cutie- This song is simple, catchy and continues to bring a smile to my face after each listen.
3. "South London Forever" by Florence + the Machine- When listening to the song you can tell it was originally a poem but Florence Welch masterfully evolved it into the best song of the album.
2. "This is America" by Childish Gambino- If I did a Top 10 Music Videos list this would be #1 but the song stills holds up as one of the best from the year.
1. "God Save Our Young Blood" by Borns- This was released on the second day of 2018 and I'm still listening to it.
Top 10 Destinations of 2019
10. Huntington, West Virginia- Unfortunately this might be last time I will ever be in the city where I went to college. Many great memories but that place will make no more for me. A bittersweet destination.
9.Disneyland, California- The most magical place on earth, 1 park per day with some new experiences at each park including the Davy Crockett Canoes, Luigi's, and Mission Breakout!
8. Grand Canyon, Arizona- I actually took 2 separate trips to one of the most fantastic places on earth. And to think it's in my own backyard.
7. Helsinki, Finland- Not the best European destination, but it was still a European destination which automatically trumps others.
6. Seattle, Washington- Seeing my best friend was a plus but the city and the surrounding areas are beautiful. The Space Needle, Pike Place, and the Museum of Pop Culture was just the tip of the iceberg.
5. Stockholm, Sweden- Our cruise started and ended here so we got to spend 2 separate days in the city. It was way more than I ever expected the city to be.
4. Norway- Our trip was based out of Bergen but we took a trip called "Norway in a Nutshell" a train/boat/bus trip that took us through the countryside and through the fjords of the country.
3. Iceland- We stayed in Reykjavik for our 32 hour trip there but we explored so much more. Countless waterfalls, black sand beach, the city, and of course the Blue Lagoon.
2. Tallin, Estonia- Of all the places in Europe I've been to, I would want to live here. A mix of old and new, Tallin brings a unique and artistic charm from the middle ages into the future.
1. St. Petersburg, Russia- This is the most unexpected place I have ever been to. We had a 2 day tour with an amazing tour guide named Marina. We saw so much on the tour and every place we went I was more and more impressed.
Well it's been a heck of a year with many adventures. I am hoping for some more great adventures in the year to come. Thank you all for joining me in 2018 and I hope you enjoy the next year and hopefully many more years to come!
All the Best, Ross
