S1 Ep. 15- Hellboy

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's Your adventure? This week's adventures took us to the movies, a record store, to 2 new trailers, and a bunch of news! So let's get right into it!

NEWS!
-The Raconteurs have released their North American tour dates, I saw Jack White in concert last year and the tickets were pretty pricey so I might skip out on this one. He is also releasing a special edition  guitar which should be interesting.
-Disney has confirmed IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will have its last showing this summer and EPCOT Forever will take it's place.
-Harkin's Theaters is coming to Laveen! No more driving 30 minutes to see a movie!
-Founding Avengers each get a special edition EW covers.
-When you go see Detective Pikachu on May 10th you will receive a special edition Pokemon Card.
-Disney Plus will be releasing on November 16th for $6.99 a month. It will also feature a newly announced Hawkeye show starring Jeremy Renner.
-Star Wars Episode IX will be titled the Rise of Skywalker.

TRAILERS!
-Lion King looks exactly like the original but CGI. It's going to be exactly like the original which makes me not want to see it. Sorry Disney, if you're going to do a live action remake of a movie make sure it's different.

-Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker is the final film in the Skywalker saga. I do not like the name however. The trailer is solid and shows enough to get us excited but gives no plot away. I really love the new cast of characters and am happy to see some old characters return. I am happy to see Lando out and about in the falcon but am not excited to hear Palpatine's laugh. He clearly died so leave him dead. I will accept a force ghost appearance however. The title confuses me, it either hints at Kylo's redemption, Rey's retcon, a new Skywalker character, OR something else entirely. We will have to find out in December!

REVIEWS!

Record Store Day 2019 was an interesting one. The big draw/gimmick of this year's RSD was 3" vinyl. They were selling players but there were only like 5 releases for the format. It's not worth the $70 price tag for a turntable to play 5 songs. I did manage to pick up some exclusive releases and some other records I found. I got 2 White Stripes 7" singles of songs I've never heard before, a picture disc of Rush's "Hemispheres" album, acoustic recordings of Mumford and Son's "Delta" album, and Coheed and Cambria's "Vaxis- Act 1: The Unheavenly Creatures". I also picked up a Wonder Years live 9" for my best friend who was unable to make it to RSD. It was a solid day and I spent way too much but its worth it to have a nice collection of music!

Hellboy (2019) is as of right now the worst film of the year (that I've seen. I'm sure if I saw Wonder Park that would be a different story). This was clearly the case of "If we don't make a Hellboy movie we lose the rights to the character" so they made the movie. The film had some decent acting from some of the cast but the chemistry wasn't there between most of the characters. David Harbour did an amazing job as the grumpy and jaded Hellboy but the only characters he had any sort of chemistry with was Alice (Sasha Lane) and Nimue (Mila Jovovich). Hellboy and his father's relationship didn't feel real at all. Makeup was great but the CGI effects were awful. The giants looked like the Ogre from the first Harry Potter film. I could go on and on about how much this film failed at but the biggest issue was the sheer amount of storylines and plots they tried to jam into it. Hellboy's Origin, the vampire king, the Blood Queen's origin, Alice's backstory, the Pig guy's backstory, Rasputin, Lobsterman? The Osiris club's hunt betrayal, Baba Yaga (which was never resolved and a useless scene), Hellboy is descendant of King Arthur? and Daimo's backstory, AND set up a sequel that will never happen. Man that's worse than Iron Man 2! Unfortunately half of those storylines either sucked or forgotten about throughout the rest of movie. Baba Yaga still doesn't have her eye that's the color of piss. That was such a dumb scene. This movie will never make it onto my ultimate shelf and should not be on anyone else's. That is all.

So that's the blog! Lots of stuff and mostly good, too bad the main review wasn't good. The next film I am seeing though will be the biggest of the year. Avengers: Endgame is coming up in 2 weeks! Next week I will have more news, possibly some new trailers, potentially a Nintendo Direct to talk about, AND a new album by Cage the Elephant to review. Keep going on adventures friends and thank you for reading!

                                            All the Best, Ross

"Covers" by Cat Power

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This adventure takes us to many genres of music covered by Cat Power! From Iggy Pop to Lana Del Rey to Billie Holiday, this album takes to many genres but somehow feels stale through Cat Power's style.  I knew this was a cover album and was excited to hear all the different songs sung in a new style. Unfortunately these songs are more than just the surface songs and singles. These are lesser known songs from big artists. I loved trying to guess who's song it was and then looking it up afterwards. Even though the artists she covers are from all sorts of genres this album is such a drag to listen to. The 12 songs slog on for 43 minutes and never feel like it's going anywhere. It's like she took the personality from the different artists but not any of the passion. I felt very bored listening to the songs. Two of the songs did make it onto my 2022 playlist including "Pa Pa Power" and "White Mustang...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

Astroneer

Welcome back to Thrak Attack, what's your adventure? Today takes us to many distant planets and worlds in a video game of exploring. Astroneer is a game originally released on early access in 2016 and was officially released in 2019 on Windows and the Xbox One and officially released on the Nintendo Switch today. The game focuses on exploration of new worlds and it is a joy! Unfortunately this is a terrible port and I know this because the reviews upon initial release were very positive.  Astroneer on the Nintendo Switch is a port from Windows and Xbox One in 2019. I know that this game works on a controller because it was on the Xbox, but for whatever reason I can't get out of the first section. I don't know if the button mapping is off, or if the way it was built on PC really doesn't translate to a controller, or if I'm just an idiot! But this game does not work on a controller. The visuals are great and are a cross between Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker and Min...
