Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week on Thrak Attack I finally got around to playing my new video game Days Gone for the PS4, we have a few bits of news, and a trailer review. It's not going to be a big week but it'll be a nice pallet cleanser after last week's huge amount of content! So with all of that out of the way, let's get started!
NEWS!
-Pokemon Go finally gets roaming legendaries in the wild with the Generation 4 lake trio!
-Tool finally launches their music on Spotify and Apple Music
-Peter Mayhew who famously played Chewbacca passes away at 74. He will be missed.
-Avengers: Endgame hits the $2 Billion dollar mark worldwide and is on track to beat Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time!
Trailers!
Sonic the Hedgehog debuted on the Sega Genesis in 1991 and is finally getting his own live action movie adaptation and it looks atrocious! The acting looks bad, sonic's design looks bad, the plot looks generic and is eerily similar to Detective Pikachu which I will be seeing next weekend. It had Jim Carrey which will help or it could hurt the film. Without a doubt it's going to be the worst movie of the year and I can't wait to go see it while shoveling popcorn into my mouth and laughing at the ridiculousness of it! It's going to be the Robin Hood of 2019 for sure!
Reviews
Days Gone is a PS4 exclusive title featuring an open world with zombies (sorry, freakers), lots of motorcycle action, and a Oregon landscape. It sounds like a dream come true but the execution just doesn't give it justice. The world looks good enough but there's not enough in it. I know it's post-apocalyptic but it doesn't feel like the world is alive like I felt in Skyrim, The Witcher, or Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The storyline starts up super fast and there's no real connection to the main character and there's a time jump that just feels jarring. I am enjoying the game at some points but it kind of feels like Fallout 76 (which is not a good thing to feel like). My big issue with the game is the user interface and menus. Now that I'm into the game and have figured out the kinks of it, it makes a lot more sense but there's just so much there and the game doesn't give enough information it for it to make sense. The game is also buggy and has lots of jittery imagery or character movements which does not bode well for my play through. I don't hate this game but I'm not all in on it so I think it won't be on my ultimate shelf. I'll play through it and when Nintendo finally decides to give a release date for Pokemon Sword and Shield I'll trade it in and put that money towards the future best game of the year. Except it's going to be hard to beat out Yoshi's Crafted World which was a blast!
So that's the sword, sweet and to the point episode. Next week will be my review of Detective Pikachu and hopefully a Nintendo Direct. It seems weird to me there hasn't been one and there are no big releases for May for the Switch. So we shall see what's going on there. I hope you guys have a fabulous week and thank you for reading, and keep going on adventures!
Thank You, Ross Patrick
