Welcome back to Thrak Attack! Episode 20!!!! We made it to 20 episodes! This week I was worried I wasn't going to have a lot to talk about but this week delivered! Tons of news, a trailer review, a Nintendo Direct, and 3 new album releases. It's a big week for Episode #20! Thank you to all who have been with it since the beginning! So let's get started! The one is for the 1 trailer we have to review, the 2 is for the Super Mario Maker 2 Direct, and the 3 is for the 3 new albums released this week!
NEWS!
-Evanescence announces a new album releasing in 2020.
-A new Pokemon game is released unexpectedly released for android and iOS called Pokemon Rumble Rush.
-Nintendo Switch overtakes the PS4's lifetime sales... in Japan.
-Kevin Feige reveals that the Mandarin and the 10 Rings will return in the MCU... potentially in the Shang Chi film slated for phase 4?
-Robert Downey Jr, James Earl Jones, Hans Zimmer, Bette Middler, and Jon Favreau are some of the few people awarded the Disney Legends Awards.
-Rick and Morty is returning for Season 4 in November.
-Robert Pattinson is cast as the next live action Batman and I'm weirdly ok with this. I don't like that they're doing more Batman but I like him as Batman.
-Fortnite releases a John Wick mode which is basically just Fortnite with suits.
-Foo Fighters, Tenacious D, and Weezer will be going on Tour together. This would be a super fun show!
-Pokemon Go releases new Pokemon and features including special lures to evolve more Gen 4 Pokemon.
TRAILERS!
Maleficent 2... or Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is the continuation of Maleficent's story which is now basically just Sleeping Beauty told from her perspective. I've heard good things about Angelina Jolie in this role, but the film itself was alright. I'm not a big fan of the live action remakes but if the last one was good enough to make the sequel there's gotta be some merit to it right?
REVIEWS!
Super Mario Maker 2 is the next big game for the Nintendo Switch and received a Nintendo Direct specifically for the game. The direct was basically 10 minutes of revealing the new additions to the game that you can add to your courses, 4 minutes of the online functionality, and 1 minute describing the tedious voucher system for the game. The game looks packed with features and add ins to the courses, 3D Land is going to be a great addition to the games aesthetic too. The online challenges look like a blast and offer multiple chances and reasons to keep playing the game after you're done creating the levels. It just looks like a fun game that has great online functionality and a longevity of play because there will always be new courses to play through and explore and create. June 28th is the release and with the voucher you can buy it and get another game for 1/2 off to tide you over until the games release. I may be doing that and picking up Super Mario Party for some summer games to play with family! Will this be on my ultimate shelf? It's too early to tell but I'm diffidently more excited about the game after watching the direct!
"Alive After All" is a live Album by Envy on the Coast which is such an underrated band it hurts my soul. Their "Low Country" Album is one of the best of the decade and is heavily represented in this live album. 28 live tracks from songs from each of their albums and showcases their ability to put on a killer live performance. If you have not checked out Envy on the Coast, this is a great stepping off point until getting into the band. I would for sure put this album on my ultimate shelf if I could ever find it on vinyl. But seriously, check this band out!
"Igor" by Tyler, the Creator may be the most ambitious album of the year. The 5th studio album from this artist comes with a lot to say. The album is a concept album and is basically a love story with a unique flavor and style. Lots of HUGE artists appear on the album but are not featured on the album which is a really refreshing twist on the collaborations of hip/hop music. Artists such as Kanye West, Pharrell, La Roux, and even Jack White appear on the album but never overshadow Tyler, the Creator and the story he is crafting in this album. As of now, I haven't had enough time with the album to say if it's on my ultimate shelf but I diffidently and intrigued and am leaning towards the yes!
"Colors" by Scary Pockets is a joy to listen to. All of their music is a joy to listen to because they're already established songs! If you don't know about Scary Pockets please check them out, they are a funk group that does covers of popular songs and features upcoming and extremely talented vocalists. Colors features songs like "Shallow" from A Star is Born, "How Far I'll Go" by Moana, "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette, and "Mmbop" by Hanson. It's just a fun time and I will always put these guys on my ultimate shelf! They're great fun!
So that was one of the longest episodes I've done but it's over and we can all move on with our lives and dream about super Mario maker 2 and listen to 3 new albums of some older music and new music. It's been a heck of a week and now we're moving onto the summer months! Next week I'm not quite sure what will be on the docket but we will cross that bridge when we get to it! So thank you for reading, thank you for following, and keep going on adventures!
All the Best, Ross
