Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week I listened to the new album by K. Flay titled "Solutions" and played a bit of Doctor Mario World for iOS. So my laptop is about to die so let's get this train moving!
Doctor Mario World is the first mobile Doctor Mario game ever and I gotta question why? That game was essentially made for a mobile device. I've been playing the original on my Switch (which is honestly the best reason to get Nintendo Switch Online) but now I also have it on my phone. My initial issue with it is the game style is a little different, you have to click and drag the pills to place them, not dropping from the top. At first I didn't like this but the more I got used to it the more I liked it. There's a lot more creative maneuvers you can do with this game style. There are also bombs that blow up spaces around them, frozen viruses that need to be destroyed twice, hidden coins and invisible viruses, and special pills and power ups that help you get through levels quicker. There is a pay to play in the game but I don't see the use for it, not paying for the game allows me to not play for 30 hours straight! Anyways, this game is great and for the time being, its staying on my phone and my ultimate shelf!
Usually second albums are not as good as the first and I can't really say that about this one. Even though I still enjoy the first one better this one has such a logical progression of tone, content, and musical styles that I truly respect K. Flay and her artistry. The first album had dark and depressing overtones while this one is in a much more positive light. So let's run through this album with a one line review!
1. I Like Myself (Most of the Time)- love the lyrics and meaning but hate the chorus.
2. Bad Vibes- Is one of the best songs of the year hands down.
3. This Baby Don't Cry- This one has a good groove but it doesn't really have much substance otherwise.
4. Sister- I love this song and the meaning but I hate the first line "Everything you do I wanna do"
5. Nervous- The melody is super catchy and is the down song which is much needed at this point in the album.
6. Good News- I love the chorus in this song but the verses don't hold up for me.
7. Ice Cream- I love the lyrics, I love the tune, I love the tone, I love the meaning, I love this song.
8. Not in California- I love the poem at the beginning of this song and the rest of it holds up too.
9. Only the Dark- Is this the ballad of the album? I don't know why this isnt the last song on the album "the end is just the start".
10. Dna- The groove in this goes hard, the meaning of the song is great, and the chorus is so catchy!
As I'm writing this review, the more I realize I really like this album. Of course it's going on my ultimate shelf along with the first one!
Later tonight or maybe tomorrow part 2 of this post will feature "Spider-Man: Far From Home" which I will be seeing today so stay tuned and keep going on adventures!
All the Best, Ross
