Welcome back to Thrak Attack, what's your adventure? This week's adventures included a movie titled "Blinded by the Light" featuring music from Bruce Springsteen and based on a true story; and a new album by the Dirty Heads titled "Super Moon" which came as a surprise. We also have a bunch of news to get into so here we go!
NEWS!
-Hercules is rumored to make his debut in "Thor: Love and Thunder" which is going to be the finale of Marvel's Phase 4. That is going to be a big movie!
-Jack White and Jack Black finally has collaborated with new music and will aptly be named "Jack Gray" (which is what I've been saying since 2005)
-A complete 1st edition Pokemon Card collection sells for $10,000 at an auction (INSANITY!)
-Disneyland is still empty! Is it due to the insane ticket prices? Or is it that everyone is in Galaxy's Edge?
-Pokemon Masters crosses 5 million pre-registers before launch. I am one of them but will probably not be able to play due my Europe trip!
-New pokemon trailer features some new items and abilities for competitive battles.
-Florence + the Machine will rerelease "Lung" on vinyl for the albums 10th anniversary.
-Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi Wan Kenobi in a Disney+ streaming show based on the character from Star Wars. Probably a good idea to make it a show and not a film.
REVIEWS!
Blinded By the Light is a fun, cheesy, corny, film with a lot of heart and great music. Of course it's great music it's almost exclusively Bruce Springsteen and the orchestral score is by A. R. Rahman who is one of the most celebrated music composers of our time. The film focuses on Pakistani 16 year old boy named Javed living in Luton, UK in the 1980s. If you know anything about history, you know that's not the best time for a Pakistani family to be living in England.
Javed wants to be a writer, but that goes against his family's values of being successful. His father has other plans for him but he's set on being a writer. Throughout the film he meets a wonderful cast of characters that pushes him to write about Luton, political strife, racism, and the lyrics of Bruce Springsteen.
The film is a solid film and has a lot of great and memorable moments. Although, sometimes it is too corny for it's own good. There are some cringe worthy moments and lines like "We're going to be friends forever Matt", or the kids running down the streets of Luton singing Bruce Springsteen songs at the top of their lungs. But the message was good, the acting was great (barring the cheese), and the costuming was perfect.
The movie was good but I would not put it on my ultimate shelf. I feel like if this movie came out a few years ago it would have resonated with me more but as of right now it's not on the shelf. I do recommend checking it out if you want a solid heartfelt film with great music.
The Dirty Heads released a surprise (or at least to me) album titled "Super Moon" last week which is their 7th studio albums within 11 years which is super impressive! Especially because they're still growing and changed as a band but keeping their sound relatively the same. This one has some great tunes in it and I really enjoyed the time I had with it, so with that initial ideas out of the way, let's get into the tracks!
1. Super Moon- The title track opens the album out strong with great verses and a chill horn part.
2. Lift M Up- This song screams "We still like raggae!" to me.
3. Tender Boy- This song isn't great because the music is kinda boring but I don't mind the chorus.
4. Hosefly- This one really shows the band's musical chops of fusing multiple styles of music.
5. Fear & Love- This is one of my favorites on the album. Cool riff, groovy, great message!
6. Cloudlifter- I can't get a read on this song but I don't hate it! But Unicorns all day!
7. Come Back Around- This one feels too much like their trying to make a pop song but it doesn't work.
8. Lighthouse- This is such a chill song and brings them back to their roots with stripped back sound.
9. Crow Bar Hotel- Another great song! The lyrics are my favorite on this one!
10. Slow Down- The best song on the album, it has everything that Dirty Heads stand for and also the best chorus on the album!
So do the Dirty Heads 7th album "Super Moon" still has heart, still has charm, and their still finding their style but not changing for anyone. Every time I feel like their career is slowing down, they put out another great album! Is this going on my ultimate shelf? Heck Yea!
Well that's it for this week! Next week there will be more news, maybe a new trailer to review (haven't done one of those in a while), and maybe some new music. So far there is nothing scheduled for the week so it'll be a surprise of what comes out! Until then, thank you for reading!
