Welcome back to Thrak Attack, what's your adventure? This week's adventure is a little different. It's the tale of the weirdest holiday ever. It started with an idea... an idea of Pokemon, Thanksgiving, and Joshua Tree National Park. It was a glorious idea that sadly did not pan out.
The trip started off strong with music and great road trip stories and snacks and of course, Pokemon. Unfortunately the trade option (which we needed to do) was not working proving that this Pokemon game's online system is broken. Finally we made it to Apple Valley, California! But we were sorely mistaken of the awesome weekend that was about to unfold.
The house we were supposed to stay at had 3 cats and 3 dogs and 5 foster girls all in their teens. It was a recipe for disaster for an elementary school music teacher who is allergic to cats. So we decided to get a hotel room... A Motel 6 that, for some reason, still has a smoking room! So everything reeked of smoke and of course a blood stain on the floor!
The next day, Thanksgiving, brought us back to the house but we had to drive to the house in the snow! In Southern California! Wild! Anyways, we were there for a whole day and the girls played wii sports and we watched and sat on the ledge of the fireplace because the futon was broken and all of the chairs were being used for the kitchen table.
The dinner was...fine, but the pies were very undercooked. Like inedible, I would be sick undercooked. Our hopes and dreams of a nice Californian Thanksgiving weekend were dashed when we realized we needed to get out of there. We decided to let our friend who brought us there know we were leaving that night. He was upset, of course, we were staying at his mothers house.
We could not bear the thought of staying another night at the smokey motel, and we could not bear the thought of sitting around watching the girls play Wii Sports, or not being able to breathe right due to the cats. We could have gone to Joshua Tree but we were unprepared for the snow. So we left.
We drove the 5 hours back to Phoenix and made it in at midnight... thus ending the tale of the weirdest holiday ever. We vowed never again will a holiday be so weird.
All the Best, Ross
