S2 Ep 2- February

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This month held 3 movie adventures, 1 video game adventure, and 2 new albums. Since these will be longer posts I will make a top 6 list and count down from the worst to the best of the month! With all of that out of the way, let's get rocking!

6. Pokemon Home: This video game is less of a game and more of a service for the Nintendo Switch and Mobile Devices. It is a storage service for Pokemon where you can transfer and trade pokemon from just about anywhere pokemon exist. Even though the mobile version promised to sync with Pokemon GO; we still are unable to do that. Which means that this is an incomplete service and was released too soon. That is the reason why it's at the bottom of the list.

5. Birds of Prey: This film has a lot of things going for it. The cast, action scenes, costuming, and cinematography were all awesome. The problem with this film was focus. There were a lot of really great story arcs in this film (Huntress's arc was the best but had the least amount of screen time). It was very disappointing to see all of the missed opportunities that this movie had. Also don't have the Joker drive the plot and then not have him in there. Don't pull a Spider-Man: Far From Home!

4. "Slow Rush" by Tame Impala: I have heard of Tame Impala before and I know they are a semi popular Australian group but I was unimpressed at first listen. I thought they were more of a rock group but I was clearly mistaken. The album is growing on me but it still doesn't hold up. Some of the standout tracks on the album are "Borderline", "Posthumous Forgiveness", and "Lost in Yesterday".

3. Sonic the Hedgehog: I knew this movie wasn't going to be great but I am also surprised how high it is on the list. It's not a bad kids movie actually! But it's not a great movie either. The reason why it's so high is because it was a complete film, it met my expectations, and there is a cringeworthy product placement that I secretly love in it!

2. "Father of All..." by Green Day: I had low expectations for this album due to their recent track record but this album is actually... good! The whole album makes a lot of sense together, there's a cohesiveness in the themes, and it's just fun to listen to! If you're looking for "Dookie" you're not going to get it but it's a solid album. Some of the standout tracks are "Father of All...", "Junkies on a High",  and "Oh Yea".

1. Call of the Wild: My favorite author wrote the book this film is based on. It's not my favorite book by him but it's his most popular. Everything about this film is true to the book. It changes a few things here or there but doesn't take away from the themes or ideas of the story. I was worried Buck was going to be a cartoon but they did a really great job making the dogs actually look and act like dogs. John Thornton gets a little more backstory which adds to the plot and connects with Buck's story arc very well. Also Karen Gillan is in this for like maybe 5 minutes but that's a big name too! Anyways, so far it's the movie of the year and it stay that way for a little while longer!

So that's my February! There will be an episode 2.2 coming next week talking about our trip to Camp Verde and our stay in a tiny home Airbnb! I am super excited for it and I'm excited to share that trip with you! Next month will bring 2 new movies, 1 new video game, probably another day trip, and a slew of albums! Keep going on adventures!

"Covers" by Cat Power

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This adventure takes us to many genres of music covered by Cat Power! From Iggy Pop to Lana Del Rey to Billie Holiday, this album takes to many genres but somehow feels stale through Cat Power's style.  I knew this was a cover album and was excited to hear all the different songs sung in a new style. Unfortunately these songs are more than just the surface songs and singles. These are lesser known songs from big artists. I loved trying to guess who's song it was and then looking it up afterwards. Even though the artists she covers are from all sorts of genres this album is such a drag to listen to. The 12 songs slog on for 43 minutes and never feel like it's going anywhere. It's like she took the personality from the different artists but not any of the passion. I felt very bored listening to the songs. Two of the songs did make it onto my 2022 playlist including "Pa Pa Power" and "White Mustang...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

S3 Finale: Top 10 Shows of 2021

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year I added a new category to Thrak Attack's lineups of adventures. I've never been a big TV show follower but I felt like with the MCU adding TV shows and access to some new streaming services to my roster over quarantine that it was time to add those adventures in! So here is a Thrak Attack first, The Top 10 Shows of 2021! 10. Hawkeye on Disney+  is not a great mini series but has some great character introductions and moments for the MCU. Most importantly introducing Kate Bishop who will hopefully take up the mantle of Hawkeye, Yelena reconciling with Clint about Natasha's death in Endgame, and the reintroduction of a character from the Netflix Marvel shows!   9. The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+ was a short and sweet show based on a podcast which is an interesting transition. Both Paul Rudd and Will Ferrel shine in this show showcasing both of their acting chops. The plot is pretty simple but is com...
