Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This month during spooky season has proved that Rock and Roll is not dead! We had many rock albums dropping this month, a few video games, and a movie from Disney+! So let's see what spooky season brought us this year! Also full disclosure, I've been playing Pikmin 3 and haven't gotten around to Watchdog Legions. I will get to it and it'll be on the final end of the year list!
October Top 8! (Like Myspace)
8. Super Mario 35 is a blast from the past brought into the present climate of video games that was fun for a few minutes. I know why it's called 35 because that's how many other players are playing against you and it's Super Mario's 35th anniversary but for me it was called 35 because that's the amount of minutes I enjoyed it.
7. "2020" by Bon Jovi is an album about the culture and climate of this weird year! It has a few notable songs such as "Beautiful Drug" and "American Reckoning" but after my first listen nothing brought me back into the album.
6. "The Human Connection" by Black Stone Cherry feels like an album that they had to make to finish a contract with their record label. It's by no means a bad album but it feels like a lazy album. The notable songs on the album are "Some Stories" and "Ringing' in my Head". Unfortunately the album is just hitting it's stride and your hit with an awkward cover of "Don't Bing Me Down" by ELO. It just feels out of place and proves they needed to fill up space on the album.
5. Clouds is a solid movie with a good message. It's a heartfelt true story about a young man with cancer who dreams of becoming a musician. The themes of family, finding yourself, and trusting others is a huge part to play. I especially love his relationship with the teacher (which is refreshing to see teachers in a positive light) and the subplot of the parents struggling to see their child die. Unfortunately one of the best relationship in the film is one that never comes to light. Instead he dates a crush instead of someone who actually cares for him!
4. Pikmin 3: Deluxe is a port of a fantastic Wii U game that never got the respect it deserves. The gameplay loop is fun, the puzzles are awesome, and presentation is fantastic. It is a perfect amount of Nintendo cuteness and sci-fi. Unfortunately this is not a game I can sit down and play for a long time. I just get bogged down with the gameplay but I am enjoying it!
3. "CMFT" by Corey Taylor shows off this artists rock roots and it is perfect! It's such a great showcase of how Rock music is not dead and is not a stale genre! Songs like "Black Eyes Blue", "Samantha's Gone", "Meine Lux", and "Silverfish" truly showcase how this style of music has room to grow and evolve!
2. Crown Tundra is the second wave of DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield. It is a fantastic way to add to a not so great game. Don't get me wrong, I had a fun time playing Sword and Shield but the openers of the Crown Tundra really shows what the full game could have been! New versions of legendaries, a new mini game to catch older legendaries, and exploration is what makes this DLC fantastic!
1. "Strange Days" by The Struts is their best album yet! It was recorded in 10 days during their quarantine and it showcases the insanity of the time we live in! Although its about this strange situation, there is nothing strange about how much this album rocks! Every song is an absolute banger! Some of the highlights though are "Strange Days", "Wild Child", and "Am I Talking to the Champaign (Or Talking To You?)". My only complaint on the album is the poor use of their guest artists such as Tom Morello on "Wild Child". But if that is the only complaint it shows how great of an album this is!
