Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This was a quiet month for the blog. Let me first address the elephant in the room... I saved up and tried my hardest to get ahold of a Playstation 5. I went 3 times at 5 am to secure a preorder with no luck. I was out of town for Black Friday and wasn't able to secure one. I am very disappointed with the culture and society we live in for the scalpers and bots buying all the systems to make a profit. It's sad that I couldn't get ahold of one and think of the kids that will have trouble getting some for the Christmas. It's a sad world that we live in but eventually and I will be doing late reviews of the PS5 and the games that I will play. My top 3 are Bugsnax, Spider-man: Miles Morales, and Demon Souls. I will get to them eventually and hopefully sooner rather than later but for now, let's review the few things that I did get to this month! 3 albums and switch game!
4. "CYR" by Smashing Pumpkins is a longwinded, boring, stale, album with no substance and no heart. I listened to it on the plane coming back from Thanksgiving and it was so uninteresting. I had a hard time listening to. I usually go back in for a second listen of albums after a few days but I will skipping this one. Worst album of the year? Possibly.
3. "Power Up" by AC/DC was a blast from the past. I was surprised and delighted to hear that the band was getting back together again after the passing of Malcolm Young. I truly enjoyed this album and hearing Bon Scott's vocals one more time. Unfortunately, this album is plagued but has plagued all AC/DC albums. It's too repetitive!
2. "Plastic Hearts" by Miley Cyrus is more of a rock album than Smashing Pumpkins... but enough smashing on the pumpkins. Miley Cyrus is an expert of subverting expectations and this album is no exception. The production of this album is outstanding and the blending of styles is masterful. Some of the highlights are "WTF Do I Know", "High", and "Hate Me". Also, she got Joan Jett for a song and that's no laughing matter!
1. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a great game. Except one level. It took me 2 days to get through the majority of the game and then 3 days to beat one level! It's such a fun game though! I'm really enjoying the gameplay loop and action. The controls feel nice. The story and animation are fantastic. But there's just so much superfluous stuff in this game that really bogs down the game. I have so many unused weapons, I never cook anything myself, and what am I picking up items for? Apart from that, which is easily skippable this is a very enjoyable game! Is it in the top 10 of the year? probably not, but it is a contendor
Well that's the month! Hopefully next month will bring more goodies and adventures (including a PS5). I will post the December look ahead directly after this one!
All the Best, Ross
