Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Even though lots of things changed this year and lots of albums were delayed we still received tons of great music! It was fantastic to see the way musicians would continue to create, perform, and share their art with the world during this crazy year! So here is my Top 10 Albums of 2020.
10. "The Juice" by G. Love is a grammy nominated album from one of my favorite artists. I enjoyed this album and it was one of the first big releases of the year. Even though I am happy to hear this artist is finally nominated for a Grammy, this is not his best album.
9. "CMFT" by Corey Taylor is a strong showing of what metal artist can do with southern rock. We all know what Corey Taylor sounds like in Slipknot and Stone Sour but this is what Corey wants to be doing and it does not disappoint!
8. "A Beautiful Place to Drown" by Silverstein features one of the best album covers of the year and shows that punk rock is not dead. Some fantastic songs showcase that heavy guitars and screaming vocals still work as an enjoyable style of music.
7. "Saint Cloud" by Waxahatchee is Katie Crutchfield showing herself as a force to be reckoned with in the folk music world. A fantastically crafted album that showcases her lyrics and ability to make you feel more than you thought you could feel. You can feel the rural part of the country bleed through every inch of this album.
5. "Sun Via" by Nick Perri and the Underground Thieves is the first solo album from Nick Perri and it does not disappoint. I saw Nick perform in Philly in 2008 with Silvertide and was patiently waiting for him to either join Silvertide again or release his own music. Finally the album was released and it was a strong first showing! I can't wait to see where this guy goes next!
4. "Tickets to my Downfall" by Machine Gun Kelly is the new face of rock music and it's exciting to see what he will do next! His debut album made it huge with the help of the talents of Travis Barker but don't discredit Machine Gun Kelly. His style takes punk and fuses it with just enough of hip hop to keep it relevant in today's musical landscape.
3. "Strange Days" by The Struts is a fantastic album created in 10 days. With many memorable tunes with fantastic featured artists such as Robbie Williams and Tom Morello, the Struts prove that rock is still alive and well! Everyone gets their chance to shine in this soon to be classic album!
2. "Women in Music Part 3" by HAIM is a near perfect album that I had a hard time not putting in the number one spot. Some of the best songs of the year come from this album and the sisters of HAIM dominated the music scene in 2020. Not only did they release one of the best albums of the year, they released thoughtful music videos, tons of virtual performances, also released a song for "The Croods 2", and featured on one of Taylor Swift's albums.
1. "Petals for Armor" by Haley Williams is the best album of the year. You've known her as the face of Paramore for years but this album proves she's much more than a pop punk goddess. Her musical stylings create many notable tracks and the production of the album is fantastic. Those things combined with her interesting artistry the whole album pieces together like a beautiful musical puzzle.
