Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This month had a ton of great adventures and it was hard to choose a Top 10! But we narrowed it down! This month had tons of great music, a few great games, and some solid movies and TV shows (although I haven't gotten to the Mighty Ducks reboot yet). So let's get marching into March!
10. "Your Welcome" by A Day To Remember is a decent album from a band that hasn't really been relevant for about 10 years. I did have some issues with this album such as the lack of variety in the music which made it feel stale; and the corny lyrics that were screamed instead of sung. It's not that I don't like screaming (you'll see later on this list) but the lyrics and songs didn't translate to the music the band was presenting and it felt awkward. The breakout tracks are "F.Y.M" and "Bloodsucker".
9. Coming 2 America is a sequel to a movie from the 1980's that didn't need to be made but knows that fact in the movie. They poke fun of themselves the entire time and it's great! Now the plot obviously isn't great and the production value isn't either, and there are no real emotional scenes but I had fun in this movie and that's exactly what it should be! I loved the costuming and music in this film and some of the jokes were funny but besides that it wasn't that great of a film but enjoyable. Being on prime also helped!
8. Cherry is a film on Apple TV+ and uses that form factor well because it's so intense! Tom Holland shows his acting skills traversing through many stages of a life but still feeling like the same person. The Russo Brothers also shine here as directing proving they can do much more than Community and Marvel Films. Although this film was really good, I wouldn't call it great. It dragged a lot and didn't have the best acting outside of Tom Holland but it was a great representation of the issues soldiers from the 2000's were and still are dealing with.
7. Cozy Grove is the first game on Apple Arcade that I think is actually made for Apple Arcade. Piggy backing off of the popularity of "A Short Hike" and "Animal Crossing" this charming game knows exactly what it's doing. The tap to move controls work really well on the iPad. The charming characters and simple gameplay is coupled with a deceivingly dark yet charming story. I can't wait to keep exploring the island and it will have a Switch release later this year!
6. "The Bitter Truth" by Evanescence is the 5th studio album by the early 2000's rock band. I haven't really listened to this group since "Call Me When You're Sober" in 2006 but I'm glad I listened to this new album! It's a solid rock album with Amy Lee's killer vocals but it is plagued with the issue modern rock has... lack of variety. Some of the songs do switch it up and add some diversity but for the most part this is a paint by numbers rock album. Some highlights are "Yeah Right" and "Wasted on You".
5. Falcon & the Winter Soldier is a 6 episode mini series on Disney+ that is newest installment of the MCU. It follows Sam Wilson (The Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) in dealing with the world after Avengers: Endgame. It has a lot going for it but for right now, it's very slow. The second episode was much more enjoyable and even tackled some racial issues that have plagued the MCU in the past. The only reason this show is this high up on the list is for the promise of the future.
4. "Justice" by Justin Bieber is the 6th studio album by the Canadian pop artist. It has a more gospel and soul style and has some great featured artists! The style of the album is great are there some fantastic jams! I watched his NRP Tiny Desk concert and it was fantastic! So different than what I've heard from him before. I just feel like this is his homecoming to creating music again! Some of the highlights are "2 Much", "As I Am (feat. Khalid)", and "Holy (feat. Chance the Rapper)".
3. Raya & the Last Dragon is the newest Disney animated feature that went straight to Disney+. It's a fantastic story with great world building, representation of strong female characters, and a great message! Although it did seem a lot like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra... and it did have some jokes that felt very 21st and out of place but regardless it was a fantastic film! The animation was phenomenal, the plot decent, but the characters were really where this movie shone brightest! Namaari is my favorite!
2. Monster Hunter: Rise is the newest game for the Nintendo Switch and it is a great one! To be fair, I did just pick up the game today... and I did only play an hour of it... but it's going to be one of the best games of the year I can already tell! It's fun, it's technical, graphically stimulating, and has so much content! It's my third monster hunter game (Generations of 3DS, World on PS4) but I am ready to sink my teeth into this game!
1. "Niratias" by Chevelle is the best adventure of the month! Such a fantastic album for a under appreciated band! Niratias sounds a lot like "short form Tool" and I really enjoy that. It sounds enough like Tool to pay homage to them but not enough to say that they are copying them (except "Ghost and Razor"). The production of this album is stellar, there are some great vocal moments, guitar riffs, and drum beats that really make this album top tier for the year! Some highlights are "Remember When", "Endlessly", and "So Long, Mother Earth".
