Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This year I added a new category to Thrak Attack's lineups of adventures. I've never been a big TV show follower but I felt like with the MCU adding TV shows and access to some new streaming services to my roster over quarantine that it was time to add those adventures in! So here is a Thrak Attack first, The Top 10 Shows of 2021!
10. Hawkeye on Disney+ is not a great mini series but has some great character introductions and moments for the MCU. Most importantly introducing Kate Bishop who will hopefully take up the mantle of Hawkeye, Yelena reconciling with Clint about Natasha's death in Endgame, and the reintroduction of a character from the Netflix Marvel shows!
9. The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV+ was a short and sweet show based on a podcast which is an interesting transition. Both Paul Rudd and Will Ferrel shine in this show showcasing both of their acting chops. The plot is pretty simple but is compelling enough to keep me clicking the "next episode" button.
8. Star Wars: Visions on Disney+ had the best concept for a show for the entire year. It's an anthology Star Wars show each by a different animation studio from Japan. Each episode feels unique and offers an interesting story taking Star Wars into the world of anime in style!
7. Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ was the second MCU show on Disney+ and did not wow us like some of the others. The show continues some story arcs from the films and introduces some new important characters into the MCU such as John Walker now as US Agent working with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The problem with the show was it too bloated with too many themes that didn't all get wrapped up. Other than that, the costume designs are the true shining stars of this show!
6. Invincible was unexpected winner in my book! A superhero animated show that was not tied to a Marvel or DC property that feels more intense than everything else we've seen before! The amazon original rocks one of the best voice casts I've heard in a while and has such a gruesome feel that I can't wait for season 2!
5. The Witcher is in it's second season on Netflix and has hit it's stride! The first season was good but felt a little too jumbled in the writing and time jumps. Now that the main characters are all developed the show can focus on the plot and world building the series is so good at! I loved the first episode of the season and kept me hooked until the end!
4. Mythic Quest on Apple TV+ is in it's second after it's COVID hiatus (which we were rewarded with 2 pandemic specials). The second season introduces some new story threads and character development mainly from Poppy and C.W. and backstory on characters that change everything! Although it may be the end of Mythic Quest the game, the show will be back and I cannot wait!
3. Loki on Disney+ was one of the most anticipated MCU shows this year and it did not disappoint! Tom Hiddleston reprises his role and knocks it out of the park once more! Owen Wilson does his best acting in years, and the introduction of the new "Big Bad" of the MCU makes this show worth the watch! It also promises for a season 2 which will be sorely needed after the cliffhanger ending!
2. Ted Lasso had a joyous first season on Apple TV+ but in the second season it changes it's tune a bit more. Opting for some more mature story arcs and character backstories. This season highlights some minor characters and develops them in unexpected ways. There are few weird episodes thrown in throughout the season but as a whole it does a great job to propel the story forward! Season 3 should be very interesting!
1. WandaVision was the first miniseries to his Disney+ that is connected to the MCU and it is the best show of the year. The anticipation each week to see what happens and figure out what is happening felt like a classic television series that the show was paying homage to! The time jumps, character shifts, and overall mystery of the show culminated in a fantastic end that truly opened up a world of possibilities and will be an important step to the MCU for years to come!
