"Good to Be" by Keb' Mo'

Keb' Mo' offers up some feel-good blues on 'Good To Be' | Review

Welcome back to Thrak Attack, what's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us to the backyard of Keb' Mo' with all of his friends and family finally back together again for a long pandemic. In his 19th studio album, it's all about making the best of life and celebrating the little things. It's a great album that I found extremely important for the time that we are in.

The theme of this album is perfection. It starts off with the title track "Good to Be..." which is a song about being happy and content with being back with the people and places you love. It's a fitting album for 2022 after so many of us were unable to see a lot of our friends and family. The album continues to send warm vibes with "So Easy" and "Sunny and Warm" but it's the "Medicine Man" that reminds why we are celebrating being together and a reminder to stay healthy and safe. It sort of feels a little too on the head but still makes an impression on the album and features the Old Crow Medicine Show.

The album then features a cover of "Lean on Me" (after one of my favorite tracks called "Marvelous to Me") which makes sense in terms of the theme of the album but I feel like was just a way to fill up the album. My other least favorite song on the album is "Louder" which is way too preachy about the "young people" and that they want a better world. Which makes sense because is Keb' Mo' is 70 years old! But the song doesn't do much other than that the young people are ready to lead and have good intentions.

Overall the album does a fantastic job at painting a picture of the cultural landscape we live in. The ups and downs of life and a gentle reminder to be grateful for being healthy in this time of great strife. That theme coupled with fantastic guitar work and production this album had me take a step back and reflect on how grateful I am to still be healthy and with my family.

When reviewing albums I use a 5 star average rating coupled with stars for production, aesthetic, concept, musicianship, and overall feeling. This album gets a 4 star rating along with stars for production, musicianship, aesthetic, concept, and overall feeling.

"Good to Be..." by Keb' Mo' receives 9 out of 10 stars.

El Deafo

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure takes into the world of Cece Bell's graphic novel turned into an Apple TV+ series titled "El Deafo". It is a semi autobiographical tale of her early life and dealing with her struggles of being deaf. The series also features original music from Waxahatchee a very underrated artist in my opinion! So let's get started on our review and head to Virginia to meet Cece Bell in "El Deafo" First off I would like to say the character designs are super cute and enjoyable to watch. I love the design of the rabbits and the clean lines of the show are very pleasant to look at. The tone of the show is very colorful yet muted and pastel which I really enjoy.  Now I won't give away the plot but as you can guess from the title and the poster that this is the story of how Cece lost her hearing. It is great to see a story for children addressing this topic for them to understand the issue ...

"Covers" by Cat Power

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This adventure takes us to many genres of music covered by Cat Power! From Iggy Pop to Lana Del Rey to Billie Holiday, this album takes to many genres but somehow feels stale through Cat Power's style.  I knew this was a cover album and was excited to hear all the different songs sung in a new style. Unfortunately these songs are more than just the surface songs and singles. These are lesser known songs from big artists. I loved trying to guess who's song it was and then looking it up afterwards. Even though the artists she covers are from all sorts of genres this album is such a drag to listen to. The 12 songs slog on for 43 minutes and never feel like it's going anywhere. It's like she took the personality from the different artists but not any of the passion. I felt very bored listening to the songs. Two of the songs did make it onto my 2022 playlist including "Pa Pa Power" and "White Mustang...

POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD LEAKS!!!

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD DO NO READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS! Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure is not a traditional adventure. In 2 weeks Pokemon Sword and Shield will be releasing on Nintendo Switch and we got almost every new Pokemon leaked this week! Here's how this will go, I will talk little bit about my thoughts on each line and at the end tell you what my first run through team will be. Let's get started! Grookey, Thwackey, and Rilaboom is the pure grass starter line. it's a great line but I don't like the middle evolution's coloring. It's like green, bright green, and then brown? It just seems odd but I love the idea of the drummer gorilla! Scorbunny, Raboot, and Cinderace is the pure fire starter line. It's not the best line because I don't like the clothes The Pokemon are wearing in their designs. Maybe it'll look better in motions but It's not my favorite. Sobble, Drizzle, ...
