Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today we go on an adventure to the catwalk with RuPaul. From the stage to the catwalk RuPaul has style and attitude which bleeds into this album and you can hear all over it! Unfortunately for me, it felt like a sugar rush. So let's dive right in and see how the catwalk sounds on "MAMARU" by RuPaul.
This is RuPaul's 14th album, he's been releasing them consistently since 1993! I know she is a busy person and has her hands in many different media outlets but I honestly did not know she had this much music under her belt! But enough backstory, let's talk about "MAMARU".
It started off strong with "Just What They Want" with some great fast lyrics and a really cool production quality with tons of great sounds throughout the song and then "Catwalk" comes on and it sounds exactly the same except with Skeltal Ki's hard to hear verse. After that it just keeps throwing sound after sound until the end of the album.
Don't get me wrong I think RuPaul has a great voice and is a fantastic performer but I feel like this album was created because the producer found a ton of new sounds to add into the music and then decided to throw all of them into it. I also know that this is just how this genre of music usually sounds but there's just no break from it! When some of these songs (like "Just What They Want" and "Mother of the House") go on the 2022 playlist I will probably really enjoy it! Unfortunately this is just too much of the same thing. It's also a short album too, only coming in at 30 minutes! Which game me some reprieve once the album ended but as a piece of art is a little short for a full album.
RuPaul is such an amazing person and artist and in my opinion is one of the busiest people in Hollywood. Their producer had a bunch of new sounds they wanted to try out and said "Get in here to release a new album." and so they did! Also there was a reprise for "Catwalk" which I found hysterical!
My criteria for reviewing albums is a 5 Star average of each track, and a star each for production, concept, musicianship, aesthetic, and overall feeling."MAMARU" by RuPaul gets 2 stars for the track average, and 1 star for musicianship.
"MAMARU" by RuPaul gets 3 stars.
All the Best, Ross
