Seattle Day #2- Land of the Geeks

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! Here we are on Day #2 of the Seattle trip which is when I found out that Washington is a haven for all things board games, dice games, card games, and pop culture. Here's the overview of my second day in Washington!

Space Needle

The Space Needle was created in 1962 during the World's Fair at the Seattle Center. It was deemed "The Eiffel Tower for the Modern Age" and has become an icon for Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. It's a futuristic building that gives amazing views of the Puget Sound, Seattle, the Cascade Mountains, and Mount Rainer. We were lucky enough to have a clear day and the views and pictures were diffidently worth the $26 admission. I enjoyed walking around and getting the lay of the land and seeing Seattle from a different perspective.

Museum of Pop Culture

The Museum of Pop Culture is also located in the Seattle Center and is the perfect museum for me. I love all things Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Music, Games, and Comics so this is the place for me. We first went into the Science Fiction museum and looked some amazing artifacts and costumes from Tron, Star Wars, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Planet of the Apes, and Indiana Jones. Then we made our way to the Nirvana exhibit and got some good information about one of my favorite bands and musicians. Next we made our way to the Indie Games exhibit which had some really great games and information but was kind of bland. Other than being able to play the games, it wasn't that interesting. Next we made our way to the special exhibit, the Marvel Comics exhibit. It was fantastic! Original manuscripts and comics, costumes from the films, artwork from legendary artists, and some great photo spots! All in all, this was one of my favorite exhibits of all time. The next few exhibits paled in comparison to the Marvel exhibit. We took a few minutes in the Jimi Hendrix experience, then to the Fantasy exhibit which was really cool and had things from the Wizard of Oz, Magic the Gathering, Christopher Paolini, and Tolkien. Next was the Sci-Fi exhibit and finally the horror one. These were cool and all but nothing really stood out to me. Marvel, Nirvana, and the Hall of Fame were enough for me though! Great experience!

Fremont Troll

The Fremont Troll is officially one of my favorite sculptures in the world. It was commissioned and built in 1990 underneath the Aurora Bridge and was designed by the Fremont Art Council to fix up that area of the town. It has since become a cultural phenomenon and is referenced in "Once Upon a Time", Majugas Seattle album, the Red Bull soapbox derby, and even is a Chia Pet. The area has since become a tourist site on "Troll Ave" and the crime rate of that section of the city has gone down immensely! If anyone ever tries to tell you art is not important, send them to the Fremont Troll!

Funko HQ

Funko is a collectables store founded in Everett, WA in 1998. The company makes many different products but most notably they create Funko Pop figures. The store was amazing and had life size figures all outside the entrance. When you enter you see many different sections but I was greeted by someone from my favorite Series Dragon Ball Z. Goku stood outside the anime section, Anna and Elsa greeted us at the Disney Section, Batman in the DC comics section, and Hulk in the Marvel section. There was also a create your own Funko station which you could custom build your own figure. I was looking for a Pokemon figure but apparently they were all out so I opted for the golden, bobblehead, Loki. It's pretty legit!

Norm's

Norm's is a gas station and convenience store with 700+ different types of beer for sale in Lake Stevens, WA. It is a beer lovers heaven and it took me a solid 20 minutes to figure out what I wanted. The beer selection was very varied and was from local and imported breweries. We decided to get some Americana Huckleberry Soda for our dinner and then I picked up a Goatmeal Stout from Iron Goat brewery. It was delicious desert beer while we played City of Horror and Ticket to Ride to end our fantastic day!

Well that's all I got for Day #2. It was very eventful and touristy day but I don't mind being a tourist in a city I've only been to once when I was 10 and if the destinations were worth being a tourist at. El Deafo

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure takes into the world of Cece Bell's graphic novel turned into an Apple TV+ series titled "El Deafo". It is a semi autobiographical tale of her early life and dealing with her struggles of being deaf. The series also features original music from Waxahatchee a very underrated artist in my opinion! So let's get started on our review and head to Virginia to meet Cece Bell in "El Deafo" First off I would like to say the character designs are super cute and enjoyable to watch. I love the design of the rabbits and the clean lines of the show are very pleasant to look at. The tone of the show is very colorful yet muted and pastel which I really enjoy.  Now I won't give away the plot but as you can guess from the title and the poster that this is the story of how Cece lost her hearing. It is great to see a story for children addressing this topic for them to understand the issue ...

Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock

Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? Today's adventure takes us deep into the walls and underneath the ground to the land of Fraggle Rock. But this isn't the first time we've been here, we remember this place from long ago and it's time to go back. A reboot of a series that ended in 1987 is just what Apple TV+ needs right? Let's find out! Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has 13 episodes in it's first season and it's just as charming as you remember. The muppets look as good as ever, the characters a charming, and the world building in this show is actually quite good! Each episode has a fun adventure with a pretty solid through line of exploring "outer space" which is just our world. There are some pretty great jokes that go along with this too. In the pilot episode one of the characters gets attacked by a dog, when telling his friends about it he says "I was attacked by the most vicious space monster" and it cuts to t...

POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD LEAKS!!!

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD DO NO READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT SPOILERS! Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure is not a traditional adventure. In 2 weeks Pokemon Sword and Shield will be releasing on Nintendo Switch and we got almost every new Pokemon leaked this week! Here's how this will go, I will talk little bit about my thoughts on each line and at the end tell you what my first run through team will be. Let's get started! Grookey, Thwackey, and Rilaboom is the pure grass starter line. it's a great line but I don't like the middle evolution's coloring. It's like green, bright green, and then brown? It just seems odd but I love the idea of the drummer gorilla! Scorbunny, Raboot, and Cinderace is the pure fire starter line. It's not the best line because I don't like the clothes The Pokemon are wearing in their designs. Maybe it'll look better in motions but It's not my favorite. Sobble, Drizzle, ...
