Welcome back to Thrak Attack! This week was a busy one with the end of the school semester, traveling home for the holidays, and Christmas. So unfortunately I have been slacking on my movies and have not seen Aquaman or Mary Poppins Returns yet. Those might have to wait until next year to be reviewed. But there have been a few bits of news and song songs to review so here we go!
NEWS!
-The Pirates of the Caribbean reboot (good lord, give it a rest!) will not be featuring Johnny Depp or the Jack Sparrow character at all.
-Disney released a video previewing the Millenium Falcon attraction opening up at Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year.
-Spider-Man (PS4) has new DLC titled "Silver Lining" and features a Stan Lee cameo that acts as a tribute to the famed comic creator.
TRAILERS!
Men in Black: International- Looks like a fun and true to form reboot of the series. There is no indication of if it is a hard or soft reboot. If Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones's characters exist in this new film or not or if it's even apart of the same universe. I think this would be a good move on them with some fresh faces (Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson) to keep he series alive.
REVIEWS!
Jack White is back with 2 new singles from his 2nd musical endeavor The Raconteurs who have not released a song since 2008. The first song is "Sunday Driver" which is a great rock song with some interesting intertwining guitar work. I love this song, it's clearly a Jack White song with the screaching guitar but then the breakdown happens and the other vocalist, Brendan Benson, comes in and slows things down with energy into the final chorus. Sunday Driver is the song that rock song needs right now and I hope it gets a lot of attention as we ring in the new year. The second song is "Now that You're Gone" which is another great song which feels more like Jack White's solo stuff and the tunes from the Raconteur's first album. It's essentially a blues tune with a basic song structure but some iconic Jack White guitar work. The focus is not on Jack though, it's on Brendan and his softer and smoother vocals. This song is the perfect compliment to "Sunday Driver" adding a more melancholy sound to the groups first EP in 10 years and very promising look into their future 2019 album. I am really digging these two songs and I am excited to see what the band does next. Jack White has been one of my favorite musical artists since 2003 and he continues to amaze me with his diverse sound and styles with various other musical artists. Will I get the rerelease of the band's first album with these songs added? Probably not, but I would be interested in getting the new 2019 album when it is released. We shall see what the rest of the album brings.
Next week is a Top 10 list week to bring in the new year. Top 10 Movies, Albums, Songs, and Video Games. They're going to be some good lists. I will also add in a section to what to look forward to in 2019. It's going to be one massive post, so please forgive me for a shorter post this week! Thanks for reading, See you all next week!
