Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week's adventure took us to the far away city of San Diego (it was actually about 5 and a half hours to drive) and it was an awesome trip! It's good to have a blog about adventures and actually go on an adventure for once but this week's trip was a doozy! We got the Go San Diego card all inclusive 3 day pass and it was an awesome idea but did not leave much room for relaxing. By the way, I'm skipping the news and trailer reviews this week because of the wealth of stuff to talk about. If you wanna see pictures, please check out the instagram and facebook pages. So anyways let's get into the days!
SUNDAY
We drove all morning to get to San Diego and got to our Air BnB on Mission Beach and got to relax and explore the beach. We hit up all of the great bars at Mission Beach including Pacific Alehouse Skybar, Lahainas, South Draft Mission, and Coaster Saloon. Speaking of coasters! We got to go on the Giant Dipper at Belmont Park one of the most historic coasters in the United States built in 1925 and heavily renovated. I thought it was a great coaster and was surprised at how intense it was for a coaster built in 1925. It was a great experience for a coaster enthusiast like myself and then the sunset right after was beautiful way to end the day!
MONDAY
The next morning we woke up and made our way to one of the recommended breakfast place called The Mission and it was a solid breakfast spot and kept me going for the rest of our busy day at the zoo! I've been to a lot of zoos and I've been to this zoo when I was much younger but this zoo experience was so amazing that I cannot explain it. Snakes getting right up to the glass, tortoises feeding inches away, crocodiles stopping my heart while crawling towards my face, a Koala Kolsch at an asian lunch right after the pandas, the dwarf mongoose stealing my heart, cheetahs and dogs hanging out, and a wonderful day. We had a few hours after we were done with the zoo to go to some more museums so we hit up the Air and Space Museum which was really cool but didn't have enough on space to be called an Air and Space museum but it was still cool. We had an hour left so we took a short tour through the Automobile Museum and that was a fun hour of checking out some cool cars and motorcycles. After that we wondered through Balboa Park and looked at the wonderful architecture and then made our way to dinner at Ballast Point Brewery. One of the best beer I've ever had was had at this brewery. The Ballast Point Victory at Sea Barrel Aged was so delicious, smooth, dark, and tasty. Best beer of the trip!
TUESDAY
The Breakfast Republic was the breakfast of choice this morning and I was not impressed. I should have went with the Oreo pancakes! But I digress, this was one of the most disappointing days of the trip. It was SeaWorld day! We got there right at the gates opened but had to pay $22 for parking (onto of the $80 day ticket) and we got into the park and were shuffled around in a small portion of the park until 11 and then most of the attractions didn't open up until 12. Throughout the day all we did at SeaWorld was the Orca Encounter Show, the Dolphin Show, the Electric Eel coaster, Manta coaster, River Rafts ride, penguins exhibit, shark exhibit, and arctic exhibit. Most of the park was closed! The seal shows weren't operating, Journey to Atlantis was closed, and a few of the exhibits were just boring, So realistically we wasted 2 hours of our day that could have been utilized somewhere else. ANYWAYS the things we did do were cool but it was such a watered down version of SeaWorld. After that disappointing day at SeaWorld we wanted to go on the Hornblower Cruise but we missed the last cruise for the day so we made our way to the Maritime Museum which saved the day! I loved this museum and it had a lot of different layers of history and information with the classic ships, party boat, and 2 submarines and it was fantastic to explore the place! After the Maritime Museum we headed over to Point Loma for some seafood with my friend Mike from New Jersey and it was great to see him on the other coast!
WEDNESDAY
Truckstop was the breakfast of choice this day and was honestly the worst one of the bunch. It just was not what I was expecting and not in a good way. The first stop on the journey was the USS Midway Museum right on the San Diego Harbor. It was an amazing museum all on the USS Midway aircraft carrier. It was great to see the size and scope of the ship, the amount of firepower the ship had, and the amazing aircrafts that were stored on the ship. We spent almost two hours at the museum but we should have spent more. We then headed up to La Jolla beach and got ready for our kayak cruise. To prepare we got some wahoo fish tacos at a place called Shore Rider which was the best of the trip. Anyways, I was a little skeptical of the cruise but my friend Alan was all for it. Throughout the tour however, Alan did not like it due to sea sickness and I loved it! We didn't get to go into the caves but we did get to see some seals and dolphins! When a dolphin swims directly underneath your kayak you know it's an amazing event! Then we went up to the sea caves and got to walk down a rock tunnel and into one of the caves. After that we wandered around and got up close and personal with some of the seals napping on the cliffside. After the day's adventures we headed over to Stone Brewing World Bistro and Garden and had our steak night! and the second best beer of the trip Zombie Love Potion (only brewed at that brewery and only around valentines day).
THURSDAY
The final day of the trip brought breakfast at Woody's restaurant right on the beach. I got some captain crunch French toast to sweeten up the day of us leaving. After that we packed up and played a round of disc golf at Morley Park which is the first ever disc golf course built in 1978. At that was the end of the trip.
So that's it, that's the end of the trip! If you wanna see pictures of the trip please follow Thrak Attack on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. There will also be a video and podcast up as soon as I can get it! The news and trailer reviews from this week will be on next week's blog as well as my review of the Scary Pockets concert! Thank you for reading, following, sharing, and keep going on adventures!
