Well it's been a big week for adventures and I would love to talk about all of it but unfortunately I've been suffering from a sore throat all week. So I am skipping the podcast and video this week, they will return when the throat is back to normal. It sucks because we have all aspects of Thrak Attack covered. From news for Disney parks, to a new Disney film, to a new Nintendo game, to an album from one of the most promising young artists. Travel, Games, Movies, and Music adventures are all covered this week. So let's dive right into it!
NEWS!
-Nintendo Switch might be getting 2 new models this summer. Probably a higher spec switch and a lower spec switch. That would make sense.
-Jordan Peele wants to direct a live action Gargoyles movie based on the 1994 animated television series. There's your next big blockbuster!
-Shantae 5 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. I've heard good things but I've never played them before.
-Fender is releasing a Duff McKagan signature bass series. This is cool, I wish they did more stuff like this and featured legendary players.
-Apple announced a new streaming service and credit card? I'm confused yet intrigued.
-US Disney parks are banning oversized strollers, smoking, and vaping. FINALLY!
-Borderlands 3 is releasing... soon.
-Playstation State of Play features 2 really interesting titles including Iron Man VR and Concrete Genie. I guess Days Gone is pretty cool too.
-Philharmagic is coming to California. Can we just make that a Music area already? It would be great for theming and flow well with Guardians being next door! My ideas are flowing!
TRAILERS!
Dora and the Lost City of Gold is one of the most unexpected and weirdest movie releases of the year. Let's make a live action movie based on a kid's show about exploring. Oh by the way, Dora's going to high school. This could either be a Welcome to the Jungle type movie that works or a Dragonball Evolution that's total garbage. We shall see. Also, Michael Pena!
REVIEWS!
Dave Grohl recently said that Billie Eillish is the Nirvana for the modern age of pop music. Her first full length album is titled "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" and is interesting to say the least. The production value is fantastic and has some really good effects. The vocal effects specifically are amazing. The odd stuttering effect in "Bad Guy" and "Xanny" were annoying at first but I actually really enjoy them. It's interesting though, I feel as though her vocal performance is really weak and emotionless but the effects really add to it and make it more interesting. Some of her... interjections? Samples of her speaking are fun and kinda funny at times but the office references in "My Strange Addiction" are really out of place and jarring. So apart from the lack of emotion in her vocal performance (which is combatted by the vocal effects) the album is pretty solid. The top 3 tunes for me are "Xanny", "Wish You Were Gay", and "Bury a Friend". So is this going on my ultimate shelf? Probably not, it's not my style. But those three songs made it onto the 2019 playlist!
Dumbo is the first live action remake of the year and the verdict is....fine? It's a good film but it has it's flaws. The original film was made in 1941 and was a 64 minute film filled with lots of questionable content that does not age well. This new film gets through the events of the first film in about 30 minutes and then moves onto the rest of the plot. The cast in this is fantastic Colin Farrell has a pretty weak performance (especially with his bad Kentucky accent), Michael Keaton does a fantastic job as the villain, but Danny Devito and Nico Parker steal the show! The plot is pretty generic but the ending does have a bit of magic in it. I really enjoyed the direction of the film. Is it going on my ultimate shelf...no. But I did enjoy it for what it's worth.
Yoshi's Crafted World is the newest Nintendo video game released on the Nintendo Switch. It's a fun side scrolling platformer with a great aesthetic, controls, and music. The look is crafty using paper, pipe cleaners, and random household objects to create the wonderfully animated and crafted levels. The controls are smooth and work effortlessly through the levels and make for enjoyable and simple gameplay. The music really adds to the element of fun in this game and that's what this game is... It's just plain fun! I'm having so much fun with breezing through levels and finding smileys and will keep it on my ultimate shelf for some co-op action in the future!
Well it's been a big week for adventures and I wish I could talk about it but I don't want to destroy my voice. So 3 reviews and only one of them is making it to my ultimate shelf! That's it for the month of March, here's the schedule for next month's episodes!
Ep. 14- Shazam! and Sara Barreilles
Ep. 15- Hellboy
Ep. 16- Cage the Elephant
Ep. 17- Avengers: Endgame, Rob Thomas, and Catfish and the Bottlemen
All the Best, Ross
