Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This week we had a lot of news from all aspects of Thrak Attack (movies, TV, music, and video games), one new trailer review, and a movie review of Detective Pikachu! It's been a heck of a week for Thrak Attack so let's get it started!

-Sony had another Playstation State of Play which showcased a few new games that all looked somewhat interesting. Here's what they revealed...
-Predator: Hunting Grounds (this looks like a variation on the battle royale)
-Medieval is launching October 25th (this looks fun but not for me)
-Final Fantasy VII: Remake (This looks amazing but I need to play through the Switch version)
-Away (looks like an awesome and inventive game)
-Riverbond (looks super weird and totally not for me)
-Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a massive DLC coming September 6th! (this looks amazing)
-Tool debuts 2 new songs for their upcoming album on August 30th
-Blink 182 and Lil Wayne will be going on tour together and release a mash up of "A Mili" and "What's My Age Again" to promote the tour.
-John Williams composed a new score and theme specifically for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opening in Disneyland and Hollywood Studios.
-Nintendo is releasing new Pokemon Amiibo for Smash Bros. Ultimate.
-Disney reveals new release dates for future projects (Star Wars, Marvel, and Avatar) but no titles are given. Here is the schedule for these three franchises...

-Avatar: 2021, 2023, 2025, 2027

-Pokemon Go celebrates the release of Detective Pikachu with more frequent spawns of pokemon featured in the film, new avatar attire, and special raid battles.
-Netflix acquires the rights to Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern life. We could see remakes, original series being aired, movies, live action remakes, the sky is the limit on this stuff!
TRAILERS!
Spider-Man: Far From Home releases a very spoiler heavy trailer. It deals with the fallout of finale of Avengers: Endgame and apparently is the last film in the MCU's Phase 3 and Infinity Saga. The film deals with Peter Parker's life after the events of the decimation and his role in the MCU going forward. It also introduces a new character to the MCU named Mysterio who is apparently a hero from another world created from one of the multiple snaps with the infinity gauntlet. If this is the case then we have the opportunity for inter dimensional jumps and could lead into the future of the MCU.
REVIEWS!
Detective Pikachu is the first ever live action Pokemon film ever made and it is not the one I would have picked but I'm glad they did. This movie has a great plot with tons of twists and turns, really great character moments, great pokemon designs, and a fleshed out world that leaves the door open to expand upon a Pokemon Cinematic universe in the future! Oh boy, I just got really excited about that aspect. Let's talk about plot.
Tim Goodman is a loner who just received word that his father, a detective, has passed away. Upon arriving Ryme City, a city where people and pokemon live and work together, he meets a Pikachu who he can understand that no one else can. This leads them to an adventure of uncovering the mystery of his father's death. This film does a great job of crafting the world as apart of the narrative and story line. I really loved how Ryme City is a plot point of the story and connects to the two together.
The characters in this movie are all clearly defined and grow throughout the film. Tim starts off as an unlikable loner and you eventually learn to like, Pikachu of course is great, and the other characters and pokemon you meet along your way are very well developed and grow throughout the film.
The pokemon designs are on point too! All of the fluffy and cute characters look great, the creepy characters looked great. It was just exactly like I would imagine them to actually look like in the real world.
Finally! We get to the stuff that I care about. This could be a great one off film and I would be happy with that but if it does well at the box office, it could create the next big cinematic universe and I totally think it would work! The film does not go out of it's way to tell other stories only the story that we are being presented which is exactly how it's supposed to be done! I will be making a separate blog post just on this topic later on this week so be prepared to hear my nerdiness of the Pokemon world come out to play!
All in all this is a fun film! I have a special attachment to it because I have been on the pokemon train since 1998 but I do feel like this is a good film! The visuals, story telling, characters, and world building all point to something much bigger and better for the Pokemon universe and I cannot wait! Oh and heck yea this movie is going on the ultimate shelf!
So be sure to check back in later this week so I can talk about my thoughts, hopes and dreams of a Pokemon Cinematic universe and how, if done correctly can rival the MCU in it's story telling, world building, and longevity of a series! Until then, keep going on adventures!
All the Best, Ross
