"The Fall of the Hobo Johnson" by Hobo Johnson
The second full length album from Hobo Johnson and boy oh boy is this album insane! That's the one word I can attempt to describe Frank's music. This is such a fun album which has some really dark undertones and moments! I love his complete turn arounds in tone and styles. So let's get into the album!
1. Typical Story- This is such an intense song that straddles the line between rap and rock!
2. Mover Awayer- This song shows the random ideas hidden in this album. Serious yet random.
3. Uglykid (ft. Elohim)- I don't like this song even though it's the single I think.
4. You and the Cockroach- This is my favorite track on the album because it's not really a song it's a story!
5. Subaru Crosstrek XV- Another fun song that showcases Frank's style and random flow.
6. Moonlight- This is one of the deepest tune on the album but it still has a great feel throughout
7. Happiness- The emotions of Frank's lyrics really are showcased in this tune!
8. All in My Head- This song has such a good hook that it keeps me coming back for more!
9. Ode to Justin Bieber (feat. Jack Shoot & JMSEY)- this song is too random for me to handle.
10. February 15th- I love how this song doesn't get a title it's just date of the performance, it's a shame because it's a great song!
11. Sorry, My Dear- This is such an extreme song but the vocal effects take away from the power of the song.
12. I Want a Dog- I want all of those things too Frank, me too...
I love this artist because of his blatant disregard to style, form, and what's popular. He does what matters to him and that's it. This album is great. It is diffidently going on my ultimate shelf!
"Feat Inoculum" by TOOL
The first TOOL album in 13 years, does this landscape of music hold up to the other world's they have crafted with their music? Let's dive into it and find out!
1. Fear Inoculum- The title track starts this album on the right foot and shows the epitome of TOOL.
2. Pneuma- A strong follow up with some amazing grooves and themes with the lyrics.
3. Litanie contre la Peur- basically an interlude from the monstrous first two tracks
4. Invincible- Some really great guitar work in this song and some cool vocal work.
5. Legion Inoculant- Another interlude
6. Descending- I haven't found my love or fascination for this song yet. It's in the middle of the album and get's lost to me.
7. Culling Voices- This song is unique enough for me to appreciate it more than the song preceding it.
8. Chocolate Chip Trip- This track is just Dany Carey flaunting his stuff! It's great!
9. 7empest- is my favorite track on the album. Great guitar solo, heavy grooves, and strong vocals
10. Mockingbeat- I guess they didn't want to end on a high note...
In the grand scheme of TOOL albums, this one isn't great but as an album by itself it's pretty amazing. Not their best but still great! Is it going on my ultimate shelf? Of course!
So there's my catch up week. Next week I will also be catching up with the new Lumineers album and Astral Chain! That trip really messed with my flow but we'll get back on track!
all the Best, Ross
