Welcome back to Thrak Attack! What's your adventure? This month was a great one for adventures with lots of new music, TV shows, and a few extra things. I did get a Playstation 5, thanks to my amazing fiancé so I have been catching up with some older games (Bugsnax, Sackboy: a Big Adventure, Astro's Playroom, and most importantly Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart) so my video game list has been a little short but here are my adventures in September!
10. Skatebird is a wonderfully charming skateboarding game that feels like a hot wheels racing game mixed with Tony Hawk Pro Skater. Unfortunately the controls in this game don't make a whole lot of sense and I the mechanics are too unpolished to make it enjoyable to play.
9. Eastward is the game I began to play, after being disappointed in Skatebird but then I was surprised with my Playstation 5. The hour or two that I played were fantastic though and I had a really nice time with it. I have a flight to Chicago this weekend so I will be playing that on the plane ride there and back.
8. What if...? is a Marvel Disney+ that is unlike anything they've done before. The past few episodes they have released have not been great though and the shine of this show is starting to wear off. After the initial idea of the show is worked out there's not much else to the episode. After the Doctor Strange episode it's been downhill.
7. WarioWare: Get it Together is a collection of micro games on the Nintendo Switch. It is the 9th in the series and finally allows you to control 2 characters at once making this a great couch co op game. The story was nothing much but I enjoyed it nonetheless and I downloaded it so I can easily access it when friends are over. If you're looking for a deep gaming experience this is not for you but if you're looking for a fun and easy party game this is it!
6. "Montero" by Lil Nas X is a delightful selection of songs in multiple different styles. The title track, and music video, drew people in but the rest of the tunes here are really what make it shine. Don't get me wrong, "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" is a great tune but the real showstoppers in my book are "Void", "Dolla Sign Slime", and "When the Sun Goes Down".
5. Star Wars: Visions is a Disney+ show that is so weird that it actually works. This is another anthology series set in the Star Wars universe where every episode is animated and directed by another anime studio. The concept is so bizarre but the payoff is extraordinary. Allowing other styles to delve into the vast world of Star Wars is just fantastic.
4. "Something Bout a Dream" by Nate Bo is the first full length album from my good friend Nate. He is a killer vibe player and has been doing some stellar work in the jazz music world! I wouldn't have put him this high on the list if his music wasn't also phenomenal! His single last year was so much fun and this album diffidently changes the feel but doesn't disappoint. The favorite tracks here are "Done", "You and Me", and the title track.
3. Ted Lasso Season 2 ended with a bang! Some great writing, visual storytelling, acting, and character development all wrapped up this episode with tons of ups and downs. With some duds like the August Christmas episode. the Beardo fever dream episode but with some of the best moments in the series such as the Manchester City game, and some really bad "food poisoning". This show has so much to offer and I'm excited to see where it goes from here!
2. Shang-Chi: and the Legend of the Ten Rings is one of the best movies of the year and one of the best marvel movies in a while. One of the reasons it's so great is that you don't have to do your homework to understand what's happening. There are references and nods to other films that reward you for understanding but that doesn't take away from the film. Sprinkle in some great comedy, character development, and killer kung fu action and you got yourself a great film!
1. San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I have some of the best friends in the world. What started as a "disc golf round in Buckeye" ended up being a weekend long bachelor party in San Diego which included drinking around the city, Ballast Point Brewery, Disc Golf, La Jolla beach, and a show we will never forget. It's been a while since I've written about a trip on the blog and this is a good one to get back into traveling for!
