Welcome back to Thrak Attack, what's your adventure? This month took us to many places all around the galaxy in many different ways. Every aspect of Thrak Attack had something to do with space. Coldplay's new album is titled "Music of the Spheres", we went to Arrakis in Dune, and traveled to many different planets in Guardians of the Galaxy! So here is the top ten adventures for the month of October!
10. Nickelodeon All Star Brawl for the Playstation 5 is a Super Smash Bros clone that is even more zany and whacky. The roster is great to see some classic nickelodeon characters from all sorts of shows. From classic cartoons like Rugrats and Red and Stimpy, to action shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar: The Last Airbender, to some newer shows like Danny Phantom and the Loud House. Even though the game isn't the next generation game that we are looking for, its still super fun to play!
9. Dune is the next epic movie trilogy that people think we need. Going into this film, I thought it would be the complete story considering the movie is 2 hours and 30 minutes but its actually only the first section of the book. I read the book this summer to prep for the movie and was shocked when they ended the movie where they did. The costumes were great, the cinematography was great, the music was great, the pacing was bad.
8. Mario Party Superstars is the newest game in the Mario Party series and this one takes inspirations from the classics. The best boards and mini games from previous games combine to make an excellent package that is fun to play and nostalgic for fans of the series. Its a great game but not much of an adventure due to the nature of the game so that is why it is not high on the list.
7. Metroid Dread is the the long awaited next game in the Metroid franchise and it's first game in the series on the Switch. It's a fantastic game with a lot of challenge (which is surprising for a Nintendo game). Unfortunately, it's not for me. I just don't love this style of game anymore and I'm surprised by that. Metroid Fusion was one of my favorite games on the Gameboy Advance but this one just doesn't hit the same.
6. Great British Bake-off is in it's 9th season and my wife loves the show. This is the first time I've watched a full season of the show. It's just a wholesome show to watch and I love that concept of show especially when it requires actual skills to stay on it. So if you haven't already, I would diffidently check it out!
5. "Music of the Spheres" by Coldplay is the next stage of Coldplay's musical career and I'm unsure of what I think about it. On one hand I love the concept and visuals of the album, we are going to see them in May and I'm excited to see how colorful and vibrant the stage will be. On the other hand its very poppy and produced. I especially don't like how Guy Berryman's fantastic baselines have been sidelined for more of a synth sound. One of the reasons why I love the band is because everyone has a say in the band's sound and I feel like there's not much other than Chris and Will showing on this album. Some breakout tracks are "Biyutiful", "Human Heart", and "People of the Pride".
4. Guardians of the Galaxy on the playstation 5 is a fun single player adventure that I desperately needed. It's odd in a way to see the same characters from the films but slightly different style but after you get used to it, it really works as a game. I love the way you use the characters but it is strange you can only control Star-Lord. I am excited to see how the story goes from here and am excited to just turn my brain off and play a fun game.
3. Chicago at the beginning of the month, my cousin got married in Chicago so we stayed an extra day to explore. It's such a cool city with lots of character and history and I've never been before so it was quite an experience. Here were the highlights (other than the wedding obviously). The architecture river tour was totally worth it with lots of history and facts about all of the buildings. Labriola's deep dish pizza was where we ate one night it was fine... just fine. Millennium Park is one of the coolest city parks I've ever visited. Stan's Donuts are fantastic. Finally, the Tortoise Club is the place to be!
2. "Optimist" by Finneas was the surprise hit of the month. I did not expect him to release this or for this to be on my radar but wow was this a great album! I think, hot take, that Finneas's music is much better Billie Eillish and should be getting more attention and praise. His songwriting and production is fantastic and just hits better for me than her music. Some standout tracks are "A Concert Six Months From Now" and "The 90's".
1. 007: No Time to Die is the final Bond movie with Daniel Craig and it could not be a better way to end that actor's time as James Bond. Every Craig Bond film was represented in this and tied the story up with a nice bow. I loved the characters especially the new agent which was great to see them working together and against each other. It's such a fun film and will be featured on the top 10 films of the year.
